Free WiFi service at Bhubaneswar Railway


station
On 17 April 2016 Google in collaboration with RailTel, the
telecom arm of the Indian Railways, rolled out free Wi-Fi
service at Bhubaneswar railway station, Under the Digital India
initiative.
Bhubaneswar railway station became the second station to be
covered under the Google-RailTel Wi-Fi project.

Geeta Johri appointed as first woman DGP of


Gujarat
On 15 April 2016 Gujarat government appointed Geeta Johri as
the Director General of Police (DGP).
With this appointment, Johri becomes the first female DGP of
Gujarat.
She also has the distinction of being the Gujarat's first woman
IPS officer.

17 April observed as World Haemophilia Day


Haemophilia is the oldest known genetic bleeding disorder and
is caused by a deficiency in the genes.
It impairs the bodys ability to control blood clotting, which is
used to stop bleeding when a blood vessel is broken.
World Haemophilia Day was observed globally on 17 April 2016
with theme 'Treatment for all is the vision of all'.

Economics

BRICS New Development Bank approved first set


of loans
On 16 April 2016 BRICS the New Development Bank (NDB), approved
its first set of loans valued at 811 million US dollars.
The loan will be used by four countries namely;
Brazil, India, China and South Africa to create 2.37 MW of renewable
energy capacity, which can help reduce the amount of harmful
emissions by 4 million tons annually.
The loan was approved by its Board of Directors during its fifth
meeting held in Washington DC on the sidelines of the International
monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank spring meetings.

The NDB will provide;


300 million dollar to Brazil, 81 million dollar to China, 250 million dollar
to India and 180 million dollar to South Africa.

Australia beat India, won 2016 Sultan Azlan Shah


Cup
The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is an annual international men's
field hockey tournament held in Malaysia.
On 16 April 2016 Australia defeated India 4-0 in the final to win
the 25th edition of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup.

It was held in Ipoh, Malaysia.
