Fairtrade School
Mr Hawkes has launched our journey to become a Fair trade School. This means we
will use Fairtrade products as far as possible (selling fruit at playtime etc), we will
learn about how global trade works and why Fairtrade is important, and we will take
action for Fairtrade in the school and the wider community. This award means the
school gets local and national recognition and will support lots of other initiatives (such as Eco-
Schools, International Schools, and Healthy Schools). We will be contributing to making the world a
fairer place.
The award will also provide opportunities to enhance many areas of the
curriculum and explore citizenship from a global perspective, giving pupils
an opportunity to participate and take responsibility for their decisions.
We will be running this with a Fairtrade Steering Group, made up of staff,
parents and teachers. Please see Mr Hawkes if you would like to be in-
volved in this group! Thank you!

Fabulous find of the fortnight

This fortnights fabulous read is a non fiction text, ’Why eating bogeys
is good for you’ by Mitch Symons. This book has won the Blue Peter
Best Children’s Book with facts’ award 2010.
Ever wondered why we have tonsils? Is there any cream in cream crack-
ers? Why is the sea blue? And if kangaroos keep their babies in their
pouches, what happens to all the poo?
Mitch Symons answers all these crazy questions and plenty more in this
wonderfully funny and addictive book for children from 8 to 80! And yes,
eating bogeys is good for you ...but only your own! Fun to read, it is also
full of some real facts as well as some amusing fantasies. It might even
get even the most reluctant reader reading!! If you do read it—come and
share your facts, we’d love to hear them!
