Blog Entry: 05.May.2010 I left the beach in December and spent christmas with family in Flori- da. Flew one day at Quest, Dustin took my brother up for a tandem flight and treat- ed him royaly and let him to fly and land the glider. After Christmas my dad and I drove across the country back to Utah. I went back to school. Classes started on the 6th and took up most of my time this winter, but not all of it. Since I’ve been back I made a few T- shirts and have given my little brother a few hill lessons. He’s picking it up pretty good. It doesn’t surprise me ‘cause he has been driving for me and my dad so he has seen lots of flying. He needs to keep it in a little more sometimes, is getting better at flaring and he has no trouble running when he needs to and also carries the glider by himself. It’s neat to think maybe one day all three of us could be in the air thermaling together. I fixed may Dad’s glider, I’d broken one of his down tubes the last time I was here. It wasn’t hard, the trickiest part was to slip the VG out of the old and into the new. School has kept me very busy but my mind is always on flying and when ever I get free time and the weather looks right I’ve gone. Early this year I had some fun cold days at the POM (Point of the Mountain). There were some good afternoons on the south side covered in snow. All the mountain site roads were snowed over so there aren’t too many flying sites to chose from. In march I got a chance to fly the North side the day after the board meeting and Zippy was there giving a tandem clinic. He and Dude gave me a lift to the upper launch and I had a great flight. TJ and K-T were there, he got a sled ride and the next day K-T was able to fly my Falcon on the south side. She did really, really good for her first flights in the west. I thought things would be warming up and spring flying was in but then more snow came. In April enough had melted off for us to go exploring. We found out that the main road to our PG site has been blocked off in several places. The north side has even more houses planned for the top and the road to Inspiration was still closed. We knew Camels would have a lot of snow we went down to Navel, UT.

the South Side POM Winter Flying The road to Horse Heaven is looks to be well maintained and it was fairly dry until we got to the last straight away and it still had a few feet of snow. We were so close so we hiked our gliders the rest of the way. We were finally ready to launch at about 3 pm and I took off in a great cycle. I was up over launch main- taining pretty good and then my dad joined me and then a really nice thermal came through. In no time we were up over the top towers and looking over the back and north. We didn’t have radios but it didn’t take much for us to understand that we were going to go north toward Levan. I was flying my Super Sport and ready to go cross-country. My dad got ahead of me but didn’t luck out and decided to land behind my Grandpa’s place I hung out a little longer and landed a little north of him. I flew over 5 miles, landed on my feet and smiled for a long time.
April 24, 2010 A few weeks later we went exploring West Mountain. It is different every time we go there. You can never really predict what the wind is going to be like and I think I launch from a new spot every time I go there. It’s very pretty you can see all of the lake and the different val- leys. It’s was super green and we saw some geese, hawks, vultures and some pelicans flying. We were there kind of late any way so I just took a sled ride out over a group of people shoot- ing guns. I’m glad I wasn’t down range.
I made a short vid- eo and established a Hang gliding you tube channel and more videos will be loaded soon. In the last few days I‘ve been finishing classes and get- ting ready to go back to the KHK to work this summer. Today I had a great day of Flying. I got two flights off Inspiration this week and got to fly with some really cool pilots locals and visitors. A group headed down to Horse heaven to- day and bet they had a good time too. Best of all I got to fly with my dad again and he’s always been my best help and support. This summer is off on a good start and I know it only gets better.
