Salvation

There are only Two Spiritual Families.

The Devils Family

John 8:44 speaks of a group of people who are of their father the devil See also

You enter this family by birth through your physical father, who is ultimately a
descendant of Adam.Genesis 5:3
You inherited your sin nature from your father Adam. Romans 5:12
Romans 5:12 says that as a result of your sin you were sentenced to die.
Romans 6:23 the wages of sin is death
I Corinthians 15:22 .In Adam all die
Gods Family
John 1:12-13 says, you are a son of God
John 3:3, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
As a result of this new birth, you are now in Gods family and you have inherited
Gods divine nature, and you now have eternal life.
John 6:47: He that believeth on me hath (present tense) everlasting life.
John 3:36: He that believeth on the Son hath (present tense) everlasting life.
I John 5:12: He that hath the Son hath (present tense) life.
Being in Gods Family separates you from the Devils Family.
Your body is now the temple of the Holy Ghost. Gods Holy Spirit lives inside you. I
Corinthians 6:19
Believers are commanded to maintain a difference between themselves and the
unsaved. II Corinthians 6:14-18
This new life is perfectly summarized for you in II Corinthians 5:17.

What is my relationship with God now?

He is your heavenly Father, and you are his child. Galations 3:26
God no longer deals with you as a sinner; He deals with you as a son.
That relationship is pictured by the earthly relationship between a father and a son.
A Good Father:
Loves and cares for his son, I Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he
careth for you.
Protects his son, Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones
which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his
neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Provides for his son, Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need
according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Guides and teaches his son, John14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all
things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Helps his son, Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in
trouble.
Encourages his son, Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which
strengthened me.
Disciplines his son, Hebrews 12:5-11 (v.5) And ye have forgotten the exhortation
which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not the chastening of
the Lord, nor faint when thou are rebuked of him:(Proverbs 3:11-12)
Feeds his son, Matthew 4:4 ..Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Has a plan for his son, Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together
for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his
purpose
God never makes a mistake in His dealings with His sons. Matthew 7:11

You did not lose your Physical Nature at the time of your Spiritual Birth.
That is obvious because you are still alive!

You now have two natures.

Both natures are present constantly. The one that will control you is the one you
feed the most.Colossians 3:5-10 (put on the new man); II Corinthians 4:14-18 (the
outward man and the inward man)

Eternal Security
What does the Lord Jesus Christ say about the eternal security of your salvation?
Jesus Christ promises that, him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
John6:37. God will not cast you out of his family under any circumstances,
unconditional.
John 10:27-29 makes it clear that no man can cause you to lose your salvation,
because God your Father is greater than all men; therefore no man is able to pluck
you out of his hand.

OkayGod wont cast me outno man can pluck me out of His hand.but what
about myself? Can I do something to lose my salvation?
Salvation is by grace through faith, and not by works. Ephesians 2:8-9
Were you saved by faith? Paul asked Galatians if they were saved by faith or the
works of the law Galatians 3:2
Have you kept the law? James 2:10, For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and
yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
These verses tell us if we have to do anything to earn or keep our salvation, we
would lose it easily. Yet, I Peter 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God through
faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. assures us it is
Jesus Christ who keeps us, not we ourselves.
Galatians 2:20, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son
of God who loved me, and gave himself for me.

OkayGod wont cast me outno man can cause me to lose my salvationand I

cant lose it myself, but is there anything else that can cause me to lose my
salvation?

-NO!Romans 8:38-39 says nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God.
Why is this?
Your relationship with God is now a father/son relationship by birth.
Review John1:12-13.
When you were born physically, there was a record made of your birth called a birth
certificate. When you were born again, a record was made. I John5:11-13 Also
you are in the book of life Revelation 20:11-15.
Your birth certificate was marked with a seal. Your spiritual birth is sealed by the
Holy Spirit of God. Ephesians 1:13, Ephesians 4:30
You will be your fathers son for eternity, because you were born of his seed. You
could leave the country, disown each other, change your name, and never see him,
hear from him, or even think about him the rest of your life, but it will never
change the fact that he is your father. The same is true of your heavenly Father. You
can die, but you can never be unborn. Your birth is fixed forever, both physically
and spiritually, even God Himself cannot change that fact.
Basic Questions
How can I know for sure I am saved?
I John 5:13 says These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of
the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the
children of God:What if I dont feel saved?

Your salvation is not based on feelings. It is based upon objective factual truth of
the word of God.
I John 3:20 says For if our heart condemn us (we think or feel unsaved), God is
greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. God knows if youre saved, even if
you dont.
Titus 1:2 says, In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before
the world began.
I John 2:25 Just believe what God has said!

What is Prayer?

(John 15:13-16)

The simple definition is that prayer is communication between you and God
just as you would communicate with your friend.

What Prayer is not? (Matthew 6:5-7)

Prayer is not to be fleshy or for show and it is not to be vain repetitions.

What should our prayers consist of ?

A
Adoration Giving praise and honor to God for what he has done.
(Psalms 95:6)
C
Confession Confessing known sin in our lives for forgiveness. (Psalms
32:5)
Sin in our lives can hinder our prayers from getting answered (Isaiah 59:1-2)
T

Thanksgiving Giving God thanks for everything. (Philippians 4:6)

It is the will of God for us to give thanks (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

S
Supplication Making request to God for things needed and wanted.
(Philippians 4:6)
For others first (1 Samuel 12:23)
For ourselves last (James 4:1-3)
* With all of these being done in the name of Jesus Christ (John 16:24)
What are some things that can hinder our Prayers?
1) Lack of faith (James 1:6,7)
2) Not praying in the will of God (Luke 22:42)
3) Disobedience to Gods word (John 14:13-14)
4) Not being will to forgive others (Mark 11:25)
5) Husbands and wives not performing their roles as husbands and wives (1 Peter
3:7)

Pleasing, Fearing, Loving and Obeying God

So far, in these discipleship lessons, we have studied several things that we need to
do for each of our new converts. For each one, we need to:

Love, nurture, teach, correct and exhort him.

Pray for him, call him, visit him, get him to church and demonstrate to him
true Christian friendship.

Teach him that he is a child of God, that he is spiritually born again, that he
is eternally secure, that he needs to be baptized, that he needs to witness
[testify], and then we need to show him about Pleasing, Fearing, Loving and
Obeying God.

Pleasing God Everything was created by God for the express purpose of pleasing
him, Rev 4:11. The trouble with men, in general, is that we want to please
ourselves. As 2 Tim 3:2 and 4 show us, men shall be lovers of their own selves,
and they are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. However, when we
please ourselves, we cannot please God. Our supreme satisfaction in this life is in
learning to please God. To do that we have to cut some ties with earthly things
that keep us from being able to please God. Like Paul said in 2 Tim 2:4, No man
that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him
who hath chosen him to be a soldier. After all, we are far better off following the
example of Jesus, who said, I do always those things that please him, [Jn 8:29].
Fearing God Ps 111:10 says The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
The fear of God is a doctrine that is a little hard to grasp at first. Nevertheless, if
we look at it simply, we can see some very understandable reasons why we need
to fear God. For instance, it is the fear of God that convinces a man that hell is real
and causes him to look to Jesus for the way out. The fear of God keeps a man from
falling for the false teaching of evolution. The Bible says over and over again that
God created the heaven and the earth. If a man fears God, he will believe that and
wont be deceived by scientists who say that God didnt. When a man fears God,
he wont fear men and their idolatrous religions and false doctrines. They wouldnt
dare use a statue as an aid to worship or follow a religion of mans invention. For a
Christian, the fear of God reminds him moment by moment of his accountability to
God. Like Rom 14:12 says, So then every one of us shall give account of himself
to God. We often think of the early church as the ideal church. In Acts 2:43 we
see that in addition to all of the wonderful, sacrificial things they did, they feared
God. As a matter of fact, Paul tells us in Phil 2:12-13, Work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God which worketh in you both to will and

to do of his good pleasure. If Christians truly feared God today, we wouldnt be in

the doctrinal mess we are in right now.
Loving God Deut 6:4-5 and Matt 22:36-38 are absolutely and unmistakably clear
on this subject, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy
soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And lest
you think that this is just an Old Testament doctrine, according to 1 Jn 4:19, We
love him because he first loved us. Our relationship with Jesus started because he
demonstrated the greatest love anyone could ever have for us. He said, Greater
love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends, [Jn
15:13]. As a result, we are compelled to reciprocate his love. Ultimately, our
highest objective should be to fall in love with the Lord and enjoy a continually
growing love for him through our entire Christian lives. And as we fall in love with
the Lord, the motive for doing things that please him will not be so much our fear of
him as it will be our love for him.
Obeying God God has specific things that he wants us to do and these are
clearly stated in his words. Therefore, it is compulsory that we learnwhat these are
and do them in obedience to his will. In Jn 14:21and 23, the Bible says, He that
hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me, and If a man
love me, he will keep my words. God has recorded his words for us in writing and
he wants us to obey them. You will, if you truly love him. There is pressure today,
however, to obey the will of people rather than the will of God. Nowhere in the
Bible is this problem more clearly illustrated than in 1 Sam 15:22-24. After Saul
disobeyed God, Samuel came to him and rebuked him for his disobedience. Heres
what happened. And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt
offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to
obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is
as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because
thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee
from being king. And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have
transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the
people, and obeyed their voice. Likewise you might try to excuse your
disobedience by blaming peer pressure. But as you can see, there is no excuse
for disobedience.
