GUIDELINES FOR MANDATORY TRAINING FOR ALL MEMBERS OF ICWAI UNDER CONTINUING

EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Partial Modification to Existing Scheme

To meet the requirement of professional skills in the current changing dynamic economic scenario, Cost
Accountants in practice and service (members of our Institute) should equip themselves with the new skills and
concepts to meet the challenges and render yeomen’s services to trade, commerce and industry. Therefore, the
existing scheme for mandatory training to the members in practice and service under Continuing Education
Programme is partially modified. The basic features approved under the scheme are:

For Members in Practice

(i) The member should undergo minimum mandatory training for 20 hrs. in a period of 3 years.
(ii) The minimum hours of training in a year is 6 hrs.
(iii) The scheme will come into effect from 01-07-2005.
(iv) The certificate of attendance for training have to be enclosed with the application for renewal of
Certificate of Practice.

For Members in Service

(i) The member should undergo minimum mandatory training for 12 hrs. in a period of 3 years.
(ii) The minimum hours of training in a year is 4 hrs.
(iii) The scheme will come into effect from 01-04-2006.
(iv) The certificate of attendance for training have to be enclosed with the application for renewal of
membership.

The attendance of members in National Cost Convention, Regional Cost Convention, Seminars/Workshops
conducted by the Institute/Regional Councils/Chapters (both paid/unpaid programme) will be reckoned against
the requirement of mandatory training period under this scheme.

The requirement specified above will not apply to a member who has attained the age of 65 years.

The basis of computation of programme credit hours will be as follows :-

CLARIFICATION

a) Every member in practice from 1st July, 2003 or prior period is required to accumulate credit of 20
Hrs. for the block of three years of CEP within 30th June, 2006 for renewal of Certificate of Practice from
1st July, 2006 onwards. The minimum hours of training in a year are 6 Hrs. Any extra hours of training
within the block of 3 years shall not be carried forward to next block.

b) Every member in practice from 1st July, 2004 is required to undertake credit of minimum 12 Hrs. of CEP
within 30th June, 2006 for renewal of Certificate of Practice from 1st July, 2006 onwards, subject to
accumulation of credit of 20 Hrs. for the block of three years of CEP within 30th June, 2007 for renewal
of Certificate of Practice from 1st July, 2007 onwards. The minimum hours of training in a year are 6
Hrs. Any extra hours of training within the block of 3 years shall not be carried forward to next block.

c) Every member in practice from 1st July, 2005 is required to undertake credit of minimum 6 Hrs. of CEP
each within 30th June, 2006 & 30th June, 2007 for renewal of Certificate of Practice from 1st July, 2006 &
1st July, 2007 onwards respectively, subject to accumulation of credit of 20 Hrs. for the block of three
years of CEP within 30th June, 2008 for renewal of Certificate of Practice from 1st July, 2008 onwards.
The minimum hours of training in a year are 6 Hrs. Any extra hours of training within the block of 3
years shall not be carried forward to next block.

d) The CEP Schedule for members other than practice shall start w.e.f. 1st April, 2006, and every member
should undergo minimum mandatory training for 12 Hrs. in a block of 3 years, and the minimum hours
of training in a year are 4 Hrs. (i.e. for renewal of membership from 1st April, 2007 onwards, every
member should undergo minimum mandatory training for 4 Hrs). Any extra hours of training within the
block of 3 years shall not be carried forward to next block.

e) The requirement specified above will not apply to a member who has attained the age of 65 years as on
1st July or 1st April of the year of renewal of Certificate of Practice or renewal of membership (in case of
members other than practice) respectively.

Hence in order to implement this scheme, all offices of the Institute are hereby required to:-

(i) Obtain prior approval of the programmes / CEP Hrs. from the Professional Development &
Programme Directorate at Kolkata. Please note that no post facto approval of programmes / CEP
Hrs. will be granted;
(ii) Send a list of programmes you plan to conduct along with CEP credit hrs. proposed to the
Membership Department at Kolkata for the first quarter of the calendar year 2005;
(iii) Detailed guidelines and complete scheme will be sent to you in due course at the time of approval
of the programmes / CEP Hrs.

CEP credits obtained in the optional years shall be considered while computing block of three years ending
30th June, 2006. The Scheme shall be implemented in its true letter and spirits.
