JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Merseyside Brussels Office (MBO), North West of England


House, Brussels

Post: Assistant European Liaison Officer (temporary)

Grade: Scale 1 (scp 4) £12,145 plus Brussels living allowance

Reporting to: Director, Merseyside Policy Unit

Job purpose:

To assist the MBO team in providing information and intelligence on key European
issues and opportunities; supporting lobbying delegations and other visits to Brussels;
developing policy contacts within Merseyside; monitoring and influencing EU policy;
facilitating Merseyside partners’ involvement in funding bids; promoting Merseyside to
other European actors; building European partnerships. To undertake specific project
work to assist in monitoring specific policy areas on behalf of the office. To support
development on some MBO communications.

Main duties:

1. Supporting other MBO staff in reporting on relevant policy and legislative


developments and funding opportunities to Merseyside partners

2. Attendance at meetings, seminars and conferences and participating in Brussels


networks

3. Liaising with the European institutions and other representations in Brussels

4. Preparing briefing notes and thematic bulletins on key developments and circulating
these to key Merseyside contacts

5. Following up on queries and requests for further information resulting from


Merseyside Brussels Office communications

6. Assisting with arrangements for groups of visitors from the North West and
Merseyside

7. Under supervision from the other MBO staff, undertaking specific projects
8. Updating the MBO web site and assisting on the office’s communications

9. Such other duties as arise commensurate with the grade

General:

The post is temporary for six months and is also available as a short –term secondment.

This job description is a representative document. Other reasonably similar duties may be
allocated from time to time commensurate with the general character of the post and its
grading.

All staff are responsible for the implementation of the Health & Safety Policy as far as it

is also expected to monitor the effectiveness of the health and safety arrangements and
systems to ensure appropriate improvements are made where necessary.

Evening and/or weekend working will at times be required as will some travel.
