FADE IN:
A large, lonely hill standing still in bright green grass. A
large ray of sunlight dawns over the hill. It is a normal
Spring morning.
FADE TO:
A town, Ballina. The ray of sunlight dawns over the village
in the early morning. A small amount of cars passing through,
a few people walking about through the streets, shopkeepers
turning on the OPEN sign light. A man walks down a street, a
stack of posters in hand. He stops and sticks one up onto a
wall next to a small shop. INTEGRITY IRELAND, Encouraging
openness, transparency and justice in the institutions of the
Irish State, and serving as a support network for wronged
citizens.
FADE TO:
EXT. OLD, DIRTY TWO STORY HOUSE. MORNING
An old two story house, in rotting white paint. Sitting alone
and surrounded by towering trees over it. The windows have
blinds over them and no light. Until, the light in the lower
left window suddenly shines on.
CUT TO:
INT. COMMISSIONER MCMANN'S OFFICE - DAY
CHRISTOPHER PETERS, 40's, well dressed, slick brown hair,
clear cut suit, is sitting at a desk across from COMMISSIONER
AUSTIN MCMANN, 50's, short grey hair, slightly plump.
PETERS
Lincoln? Well er, I've only known
him for three months. He doesn't
talk much but he strikes me as a,
er..how should I put it. Strange
man. We don't talk much.
MCMANN
Has he talked with you much about
the case of the Devil killer or
anything?
PETERS
Er, not really. He explained to me
a bit when we first got together.

3.
PETERS (CONTD)
Said it was a serial killer, who
burns people. No connections, no
prints or anything.
MCMANN
What's he like?
PETERS
Lincoln, he's er not how I'd say
social but he seems like a good
Detective. Y'know, he could spot a
killer out from the crowd. I'm not
sure how he got it, but he's got it
alright.
MCMANN
Have you got into any personal
conversations with him yet?
PETERS
No, not really. He uh, he likes to
keep quiet on things. I still
haven't gotten to see his place
yet. But uh, I did invite him to my
wedding two months back.
CUT TO:
INT. WEDDING ROOM - DAY
PETERS walks through a large crowd of people in a tuxedo,
shaking their hands and thanking them. He slowly makes his
way through the crowd until he comes up to a table with a
microphone on it. He taps it twice.
PETERS
Sorry everyone, sorry.
The room goes quiet. PETERS takes out a page and unfolds it.
PETERS (CONTD)
Sorry, needed to write words down.
Ask me to talk my mind about a
wedding and Ill end up going down
into talking about the history of
the Peters family.
Everyone chuckles.
PETERS (CONTD)
Well, Id have to say this is
probably the most happiest day of
my life.

4.
PETERS (CONTD)
Ever since four years ago, when I
met Caitlin the love of my life, I
knew she was the one. The minute we
connected our eyes I knew I found
someone special. Someone who I
would spend the rest of my life
with. Someone who could understand
me. Honestly, every moment things
get hard as a Garda, shes always
there to help me and comfort me no
matter what. Shes my light at the
end of the tunnel. And now with a
baby girl on the way, we soon wont
be alone together.
The audience listens to PETERS and nods in agreement, smiles
on their faces. A table is then shown in close up, a table is
full except with one seat empty. A nametag infront of it,
Michael Lincoln.
CUT TO:
INT. DARK ROOM - NIGHT
LINCOLN, late 30s, padded out suit, clean cut hair, is
sitting down on a chair in a dark room, barely lit by one
single bulb. He is breathing roughly as he looks down at his
hands, taking off his bloody brass knuckles.
LINCOLN
You.you have no idea what pain you
had caused me.
A man is on the ground, looking up at LINCOLN. His face is
not seen but blood can be seen around his head. LINCOLN
stares down at him.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Pain that you had caused me and
everything in my life, you...you
caused it all.
LINCOLN squeezes his fists as he looks down at his bloody
knuckles.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
But for the pain you caused me, you
gave me an awakening. You showed me
who I really am and gave me a
sudden realisation. The idea of
what pain really is, what catharsis
it can give you and that it is a
never ending factor.

5.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
I never really thought about it
until now to be honest. But you,
you showed me the light of it all.
For that, I thank you.
LINCOLN turns from the man.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
But for what you done, I cant
forgive.
LINCOLN turns back, gun raised. The man screams before
LINCOLN fires a shot, point blank. The man falls to silence.
LINCOLN lowers the gun and exhales lightly as he widens his
eyes, gulping. He turns and quickly vomits into a sink.
EXT. UNKNOWN - NIGHT
LINCOLN drags out a body, into a large black plastic bag to a
car. The car is a Kia Rio. He pops open the trunk and begins
to get the body in quickly, he is panicking. He drops the
body inside, slamming shut the trunk. He walks forward to the
front door and opens it up, hopping inside. He turns on the
engine, letting it roar before driving forward.
CUT TO:
EXT. OPEN ROAD, NEXT TO WATER - MORNING
LINCOLN, now looking to be in mid 40s, bushier hair, bit of
hair growing on his chin, eyes heavy, is sitting in his car
with a window rolled down. The car is a chauffered sedan. He
is smoking on his cigarette as he looks out at the water.
PETERS (V.O.)
I guess you could say he's a quiet
man, I'm not sure I'd call him
dangerous but he's not your normal
guy walking around the station.
Couple of guys downstairs talk shit
about him on the daily. Saying he's
a drunk and an addict. Yeah, they
call him "Detective Sergeant LSD".
He then looks up and stares at a flock of birds, flying
freely across the sky as he exhales his smoke and sighs
lightly. His eyes follow their movements to the water before
LINCOLN suddenly sees something. A young girl, pale white
comes out from behind a bush and stares at him. He stares
back, his mouth open slightly. She waves at him slowly. He
closes his mouth and gulps, shaking his head and looks down.
He shuts his eyes tight, inhaling.

6.
He opens his eyes slowly and looks back up at where the girl
was. She has vanished. He sighs slightly in relief.
LINCOLN leaves his cigarette in his mouth as he turns his
head back inside and looks down at his badge and gun on the
passenger seat. He stares hard at the gun before shaking his
head and looking back forward. The police radio in his car
erupts.
RADIO (O.S)
Detective Lincoln, Detective
Lincoln please respond.
LINCOLN removes his cigarette and sighs again, picking up the
radio.
LINCOLN
Yeah, Detective Lincoln.
RADIO (O.S)
Detective Lincoln, you are needed
at 61 Keenagh Street for a crime
scene. It is supposedly related to
the Devil case.
LINCOLN closes his eyes and nods.
LINCOLN
Right, Ill be over there.
LINCOLN lays down the radio and sighs lightly as he puts the
cigarette back in his mouth, turning on the engine. He drives
forward.
BACK TO:
INT. COMMISSIONER MCMANN'S OFFICE - DAY
PETERS sits across from MCMANN who nods his head slowly and
looks around.
MCMANN
So you'd say he's stable?
Beat. PETERS hesitates before nodding slowly.
PETERS
From what I've seen, yeah.
MCMANN
Right well er, there's something
I'd like you to meet.

7.
PETERS nods once. MCMANN puts his finger on a speaker button.
MCMANN (CONTD)
Anne, send in Judas Norman please.
MCMANN takes his finger off of the button. PETERS widens his
eyes and sits forward in his seat.
PETERS
Judas Norman? Judas Norman, the
Lord Mayor?
MCMANN
Indeed yes, hes here to talk to
you about a couple of things.
The door opens, in walks JUDAS NORMAN, 50s, large grin, grey
hair and clean cut suit. He closes the door and walks to
PETERS, nodding and shaking his hand.
JUDAS NORMAN
Good to see you Detective Peters.
PETERS
Its an honor to
really an honor.
for this county,
fantastic I must

meet you sir,

The things you do
its quite
say.

JUDAS NORMAN
Ah stop, I just work to help the
people as any man should do
especially those who he lives
among. Like you do, am I correct?
PETERS
Uh yeah, I guess you could say I
try to help out.
JUDAS NORMAN
Yes, yes I seen you helped rebuild
a part of that orphanage. Thank you
for that.
PETERS
My dad was an orphan so I guess you
could say I was inspired to build
it, to save others.
JUDAS NORMAN
Yes, yes and I must also
congratulate you on that Mullen
case two months back.

8.
JUDAS NORMAN (CONTD)
I cant count how many times he was
an embarrassment to our community.
But anyway, to our main topic.
Okay.

PETERS

JUDAS NORMAN
Detective Peters, Im going to be
honest. Whether you see it or not,
this Devil case is scaring the
residents of Ballina. Its been
three years now and not a single
conviction. Its not looking good
Detective.
PETERS
I understand sir, weve tried
running down every lead there is
but we cant find anything. Theres
no connections to any of the three
victims.
MCMANN
Four now, body was just discovered
today. A Dennis Morgan or
something. Your partner Lincoln is
on scene.
Christ.

PETERS

JUDAS NORMAN
Its going to be alright Detective
Peters, weve talked with a couple
other Commissioners and Lord Mayors
from other counties. Specifically
Waterford, theyre going to send
down a squad from their Special
Detective Unit, under my control.
A squad?

PETERS

JUDAS NORMAN
Yes, the Fintan Squad, theyve
gotten the highest crime solving
record in the country. Theyre on
their way down.
PETERS
Alright, okay. Is that all?

9.
JUDAS NORMAN
What about your partner, Detective?
PETERS
Lincoln? What about him?
Well..

JUDAS NORMAN

JUDAS turns his head to MCMANN, tilting his head a bit.

MCMANN looks to JUDAS before looking back at PETERS, leaning
forward onto his desk.
MCMANN
Quite frankly, were worried about
him doing his job correctly and his
attitude. He hasnt been the most
attentive lately and while you were
off on your honeymoon, he was hit
with accusations.
PETERS
What kind of accusations?
JUDAS NORMAN
Assault, trespassing. He supposedly
broke into a construction site at
night on the 1st of May, 2004 and
assaulted a worker who was telling
him he was trespassing. Nothing
came about it though, no physical
evidence connecting to Lincoln. But
we still believe that he did it.
MCMANN
He really didnt seem so taken back
by the accusations and honestly,
acted like he didnt give a shit.
PETERS
Thats Lincoln for you.
JUDAS NORMAN
Whats your relationship like with
Detective Lincoln anyway Chris?
PETERS
Aint no real relationship yet to
be honest Mr.Norman. He doesnt
talk much about himself or anything
at all really. I struggle to even
talk with him about the whole Devil
case. Havent even got him over to
my house yet for dinner.

10.
JUDAS NORMAN
Right well, Detective. Were going
to need you to.watch him for us
while you two are investigating the
case now. Were pretty worried
about how he is going about but we
have no proof or anything to take
him off the case and if we try to,
hell probably go screaming to the
GSOC if we try anything. He done it
before.
PETERS
You want me to spy on him?
JUDAS NORMAN
Not spy, just watch over him. Try
get to know him better and tell us
about any moves hes making in the
case. We want to know more about
whats going on in the case. Its
becoming more and more worrying for
the village as I said.
PETERS
Yeah, yeah I get what you mean.
MCMANN
Alright, thats all we have to say
Peters. Go on out to the crime
scene and see what you can find
out.
PETERS
Thank you sir.
PETERS stands up and straightens up his suit jacket, nodding
to the duo and turns, walking to the door.
CUT TO:
EXT. MORGAN'S HOUSE - MORNING
DENNIS MORGANs house is a bright white bungalow in located
on a lonely road with many side doors made of glass. Many
Garda officers, reporters, medics and coroners are outside,
doing their work. Up pulls, PETERS onto the crime scene and
hops out his car, approaching the scene sighing lightly. He
shows his badge to a Gard officer who holds up the tape for
him. PETERS walks inside and looks to his left, a Gard stands
next to another who has a bag open for him. The Gard vomits
into the bag as the other pats him on the back. PETERS shakes
his head slowly.

11.
Another Gard officer approaches PETERS as he walks through.
The duo walk together to the front door of the house.
GARD
Alright Chris.
PETERS
Heya Brian, what have we got?
GARD
Dennis Morgan, 42 years old. Exarmy ranger, stabbed once through
the heart and yknow.
PETERS
Burn marks yeah?
GARD
Yeah, body was found by a postman.
No witnesses or anything yet,
Coroner said hes been here dead
about four to five days.
PETERS
Alright, thanks Brian. Lincoln
inside?
GARD
Ugh, yeah. Whats he got up his
ass? Everytime he acts like a
cranky prick.
PETERS
He just is one Brian! Ill talk to
you later.
INT. MORGAN'S HOUSE - DAY
PETERS walks inside the household and looks around as he
does. The house doesn't appear to be damaged in anyway and
looks slightly normal. A cross hangs high on the wall as he
walks in. A Gard rushes past him towards the door, hand over
his mouth and coughing. PETERS glances at him before shaking
his head and walking into the sitting room.
IN THE SITTING ROOM
PETERS walks inside the sitting room and sniffs once, shaking
his head in disgust. He places his hand over his nose. DENNIS
MORGAN, 40's, muscular, built lays dead on the floor with
burn marks on his legs and arms. A bloody knife near his
hand. LINCOLN is kneeing down near him and writing in his
journal.

12.
PETERS
Argh, Lincoln. Nice to see you.
Mhmm.

LINCOLN

PETERS
What've you got so far?
LINCOLN
Situation is the same as always.
Burn marks on the legs and arms.
But there's something different
this time.
PETERS
What's that?
LINCOLN points forward to the right of PETERS. He turns his
head to his side and looks at the mantlepiece. A burnt metal
figure looking to be like a person stands on it's own
overlooking the body. PETERS crosses his eyebrows and takes
out his gloves, looking at it.
The fuck?

PETERS (CONTD)

LINCOLN
Not sure what it is yet, coroner's
gotten prints for it. Needs to test
it at the lab.
PETERS
What you thinking?
LINCOLN
I'm not sure. Possibly a
toy...maybe he's toying with us.
PETERS
And this knife here?
PETERS bends down and points towards the knife. LINCOLN
slowly walks around the body.
LINCOLN
I'd say he was stabbed after he had
been burned. An act of mercy maybe.
PETERS
Mercy? I wouldn't say our guy here
has any mercy.

13.
LINCOLN
Something's off about this one.
Hm?

PETERS

LINCOLN
The front door isn't kicked in, all
the windows are fine, the backdoor
is locked.....Dennis must have let
him in willingly.
LINCOLN knees down to DENNIS and stares down over him. PETERS
pushes himself up, looking over at LINCOLN
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Our boy here knew Dennis. Friends,
acquitances most likely.
LINCOLN rubs his chin for a second as he stares over the
body.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
We should canvass the neighbours.
They must have seen something or
someone over here.
PETERS nods his head slowly as he turns and walks over to a
table, picking up a photo. The picture has DENNIS MORGAN in a
priest uniform with other priests behind him at St.
Muirdich's church.
PETERS
Sure uh, I can get a couple of
Gard's to go door to door.
LINCOLN
Nah, we should do it ourselves this
time. Don't want any lazy, laid
back Gard's doing our leg work.
PETERS glances to LINCOLN and shakes his head, sighing.
LINCOLN looks over DENNIS' body and then looks to the
fireplace next to him. Something peaks out from the coal.
LINCOLN crosses his eyebrows and reaches inside, picking up
the item gently. He looks down onto it. A burnt cross, pretty
recently burned.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Hmm, get me an evidence bag would
you?

14.
PETERS looks over at LINCOLN and crosses his eyebrows as he
takes out a bag, unfolding it. He passes it to LINCOLN who
carefully places the cross into the bag.
PETERS
Is that a cross?
LINCOLN
Looks like it. And it's just
beneath the mantlepiece.
LINCOLN folds up the bag and stands up, looking at the metal
figure and mantlepiece next to PETERS.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOUSE 41, KEENAGH STREET - DAY
LINCOLN and PETERS stand in the doorway of a house. PETERS
has his notepad and journal out. A female neighbour is
talking with them.
LINCOLN
Did you happen to see Mr Dennis
Morgan over there last night?
FEMALE NEIGHBOUR
Er, no no. I stayed in most of the
night. I heard some cars driving up
and down the street, that's about
it.
PETERS
See anybody go into his house?
She shakes her head. LINCOLN nods his head slowly.
EXT. HOUSE 45, KEENAGH STREET - DAY
LINCOLN stands outside a house, talking with a male
neighbour.
LINCOLN
What about Dennis Morgan? You see
anything from him last night?
MAN
Well, I think I saw him open the
door to somebody last night. Not
sure who, just remember somebody
going into his home last night when
I took out the trash.

15.
LINCOLN
Did they look like friends?
MAN
I'd say so, Dennis nodded to him I
think. It was late last night, I
can't really remember it.
EXT. HOUSE 49, KEENAGH STREET - DAY
PETERS stands on a porch, talking with a woman.
PETERS
Did you happen to hear anything out
of the ordinary last night? At
Dennis Morgan's home?
WOMAN
Er, I think I remember a flash
coming from the house although I
think I was dreaming. It was like a
really bright light.
PETERS
But anything different? Maybe
somebody going into his house?
Nope.

WOMAN

EXT. HOUSE 47, KEENAGH STREET - DAY

LINCOLN approaches a house, looking at it. A bouncey castle
is seen in it's backyard. LINCOLN opens up a gate and walks
inside, his journal in hand. Suddenly, out the side door a
bunch of kids rush out, laughing and screaming. A clown
follows them out, laughing himself. He is plump, has face
paint, red hair.
LINCOLN looks at them and crosses his eyebrows. The clown
looks up to LINCOLN and flicks his chin, crossing his
eyebrows.
CLOWN
Yes? Hello?
LINCOLN
Do you live here sir?

16.
CLOWN
Heh, no I eh I'm just over here for
the children's party. The owner is
somewhere at work I think.
LINCOLN
Mhm right, listen were you here
yesterday or last night?
CLOWN
Yeah, I eh the son of the family
who lives here just made his
communion. So I'm coming across for
the parties, I got hired.
LINCOLN
You see anything out of the
ordinary at uh, the house down the
street?
CLOWN
Mmm no sir, everything looked quite
normal to me.
LINCOLN
Hm, well did you see anybody go
into that house?
CLOWN
Not that I can remember, I've just
been here working as the clown like
I said. I'm mostly focused on
getting my money's worth, heh.
LINCOLN
Right, well thanks for the help
anyway sir.
CLOWN
No problem. But wait listen, what's
this all about?
LINCOLN
Oh just, something happened at the
house. We're looking into it.
CLOWN
Well, I'll get in contact if I hear
something.
LINCOLN nods his head slowly and walks out from the garden
towards the street. PETERS approaches him, flicking his chin.
The clown goes back to play with the kids.

17.
PETERS
You get much?
LINCOLN
No, no real luck or hints. You?
PETERS
Nothing, some woman said she saw a
flash at the house. Another guy
said that he works down at a
church.
LINCOLN
Probably the fire for when he got
burned..
LINCOLN walks slowly towards a beige truck and leans onto it,
looking around. PETERS looks around the street.
PETERS
You get some canvassing photo's?
LINCOLN
I did earlier, yeah.
PETERS
Right well, I think we mi-.
LINCOLN
You check that house over there?
LINCOLN nods to a house across the street, an older man
cleans his porch with a brush. PETERS shakes his head slowly.
LINCOLN nods and approaches the house, PETERS follows.
EXT. HOUSE 50, KEENAGH STREET - DAY
LINCOLN stands outside the garden, notepad in hand. PETERS
stands next to him. The older man stands in his garden, hands
on his hips.
OLD MAN
Dennis Morgan? Hmpf, I've heard of
him. Never met the guy. What
happened to him?
LINCOLN
A crime has been committed, he's
involved with it. We're making
enquiries.
OLD MAN
Uh huh, well believe me this street
is cursed.

18.
PETERS
What makes you say that?
OLD MAN
Meh, first there was that little
Martin girl up the street. Now
this, I'm thinking about moving
out.
LINCOLN
What happened with this Martin
girl?
OLD MAN
You didn't hear? I thought that was
big news. Some daughter to the
Martin family, went missing a few
months back. Never found again,
funny thing though. I remember
Dennis Morgan had her go to his
church. St Muirdich's I think.
LINCOLN
Mhm, was Dennis a very out of the
ordinary type of guy?
OLD MAN
I don't know, maybe. Like I said I
never talked with the guy.
LINCOLN nods his head slowly.
CUT TO:
INT. PETERS' CAR (MOVING) - DAY
PETERS drives his car while LINCOLN sits in the seat next to
him and stares out the window. PETERS shakes his head slowly.
PETERS
That crime scene, that murder.
Shit, I don't think I've seen
anything sicker in my entire life.
Mmm, yeah.

LINCOLN

PETERS
I mean, how the fuck could you do
something that bad? I'll never
understand that, ever.

19.
LINCOLN
Hmpf, well some advice Peters. Get
used to it, start to understand it.
That'll get you one step closer to
the killer.
PETERS glances over at LINCOLN, sighing and looks back to the
road.
PETERS
You got any ideas?
LINCOLN
Mmm, not much yet. I think maybe
Dennis knew the killer and he got
killed by him. Makes sense to me.
PETERS
How's that?
LINCOLN
Well...all the murder's have been
the same thing, the same story. To
me, it seems like this is
his...creation, his vision...his
dream. And he wants it to be the
same each time. So, he befriends
Dennis so his dream isn't ruined.
It's like, playing with his food
before eatting it.
PETERS
Shit, that's some conclusions there
Lincoln. Dreams, visions. Where'd
you learn all that?
LINCOLN
I've read some books, psychology,
serial killers, sex crimes even.
PETERS
Well, you might be wrong this time.
What about the metal figure?
LINCOLN
I think it's a sign, his signature
at his crime scene. Like a nametag
on a novel. Or maybe he's getting
more confident.
PETERS
Maybe, maybe he is yeah...

20.
LINCOLN stares out the window as PETERS looks down, sighing.
He glances to LINCOLN before looking back at the road.
PETERS (CONTD)
Hey uh, there probably isn't a
better time to ask this so I'm just
gonna ask. Will you come to dinner
soon enough?
LINCOLN sighs and lays his hand down in anger. PETERS nods
his head slowly.
PETERS (CONTD)
Yeah, yeah I know what you said
before but Caitlin really wants to
meet you. All we're asking for is a
an hour tops dinner with us, make
some sort of conversation.
LINCOLN
I already told you Peters, events
aren't my thing. Not for a long
time.
PETERS
I know but, argh I just can't hold
her off anymore. Will you come?
LINCOLN
I'll think about it.
PETERS shakes his head in frustration as he looks to the
road. LINCOLN stares out the window, not a care in the world.
PETERS
Y'know, it would help if I knew a
bit about you too.
LINCOLN
What do you want to know?
PETERS
Well, you worked Gang Intelligence
before Homicide right?
Mhm.

LINCOLN

PETERS
Well what was it like? What'd you
do there?

21.
LINCOLN
Shit that went on there, that's all
classified Peters.
PETERS looks to LINCOLN and shakes his head, exhaling in
anger. He looks back to the road.
PETERS
Y'know what, nevermind.
LINCOLN stares out the window at the enviroment around him.
CUT TO:
EXT. 44 GARDEN STREET - MORNING
PETERS car pulls up onto the curb, outside the house. PETERS
and LINCOLN begin to get out. They approach the door, banging
on it.
INT. LIVING ROOM, 44 GARDEN STREET - MORNING
SARAH MORGAN, 78, long grey hair is sitting on a sofa, next
to JAKE MORGAN, 25, spiked blonde hair, is sitting next to
her. His arm around her shoulder. PETERS is sitting on a
chair across from them. LINCOLN is standing up, resting his
arm on the fireplace.
PETERS
Im sorry to say Mrs. Morgan but
your son, Dennis has passed away
earlier this week.
JAKE raises his head, shocked. SARAH squints her eyebrows and
looks to JAKE, confused.
My son?

SARAH

JAKE
Yes, your other son. My brother.
JAKE looks back to PETERS.
JAKE (CONTD)
She has alzheimers Detective.
PETERS
Oh Im sorry to hear that. Uhm
listen uh, Jake was it?

22.
PETERS (CONTD)
Do you know where your brother
might have been last week or who he
might have been with?
JAKE
Well, he might have been doing at
that church. Hes been practicing
religion and planning to become a
priest. He was working with this
priest, uh Harold Byrne who he met
at a help centre for soldiers. The
church is in the centre of the
village I think.
PETERS
Do you know who might have killed
your brother, Jake? I know this is
hard.
JAKE
No, my brother was a good man. He
served his country, gave his life
for it, was nice to everyone he
met. He helped children and all.
Fucking hell, it takes a creature
to want to harm him.
PETERS nods his head lightly, a sad look on his face.
CUT TO:
EXT. ST. MUIRDICH'S CHURCH - AFTERNOON
PETERS car pulls up into the carpark of the church as many
people are seen walking in and out of the church. LINCOLN and
PETERS approach the door of the church, many people walk past
them. One man, late 40s, black hair, slightly plump bumps
into PETERS. He falls back slightly, dropping his folder onto
the floor. Pictures and notes of the crime scene fall onto
the floor, including close up pictures of DENNIS corpse. The
man turns and throws his arms up.
MAN
Oh, crap sorry man. Really Im
sorry.
PETERS and the MAN bend down, picking up the pictures.
PETERS
Its grand, its grand. Accidents
happen.

23.
The MAN glances at the pictures, smirking before he hands
some of the pictures to PETERS who takes them from the man
and puts them onto his stack. He sighs and turns, walking
back into the church.
INT. ST. MUIRDICHS CHURCH - AFTERNOON
LINCOLN and PETERS walk inside the church and look around,
PETERS turns and dips his two fingers into the holy water,
blessing himself. LINCOLN keeps on walking. A priest, 60s,
pretty skinny, short hair approaches the duo as he holds his
shaking hands.
PRIEST
Now how may I help you brothers?
PETERS
Good afternoon Father. Detectives
Peters and Lincoln, were
investigating the murder of a
Dennis Morgan.
The PRIEST pulls a horrified look.
PRIEST
Dennis? Oh dear Lord, please no.
The PRIEST removes his cross and begins to pray quietly,
muttering under his breath.
PETERS
Uhm, Father are you Brother Harold
Byrne?
The PRIEST lowers his cross and looks upto PETERS, his eyes
slightly teary. He nods.
PETERS (CONTD)
Can we talk some place else? We
have a couple of questions.
HAROLD sighs lightly as he turns and walks off, LINCOLN and
PETERS follow.
IN DENNIS' BARRACKS
HAROLD flips through a picture book, consisting of pictures
of DENNIS, HAROLD and a few others.

24.
HAROLD BYRNE
He was such a good lad, he was
training to be a priest, helped out
around the church, took on
ceremonies! I cant believe anyone
would hurt him.
PETERS
So you have no idea who might have
hurt Dennis?
HAROLD BYRNE
Not a single person, everyone
around the church appreciated
Dennis and everything he done.
LINCOLN stares HAROLD down, looking him up and down. HAROLD
glances at him from time to time and itches his arms
constantly.
PETERS
What about his personal life? I
have a picture, erm.
PETERS flips through his file of notes, slipping out a
picture of DENNIS and a woman. He shows it to HAROLD, who
shakes his head in disgust.
HAROLD
Ugh, yes that is his ex-lover,
Hazel Meduza, that he fell in love
with after his return from the war.
Horrible woman, she used him and
was a wh- prostitute.
PETERS
Prostitute eh? Would you know where
we could find her?
HAROLD
No, uhm no. She was a private
prostitute or something like that,
Dennis broke up with her soon after
finding out her profession and
wanted to become a son of God.
Poor, poor Dennis
HAROLD lowers his head, placing his hand over it as PETERS
give him a sympathetic look and looks back up to Lincoln.

EXT. ST MUIRDICH'S CHURCH - CLOSE TO EVENING
LINCOLN and PETERS walk outside, PETERS has his file under
his arm. They walk to PETERS car.
PETERS
Could have been Hazel that done the
murder, maybe she had a new
boyfriend or something?
LINCOLN
You would think that at first, but
what about all the other things?
What about the metal toy? What
about the self inflicted wounds?
Dont think Hazel would have
anything to do with that, nah I
think this is our boy.
PETERS
Well Meduza seems like a good
person to question at least,
private prostitutes.you know where
we could find something like that?
LINCOLN stumbles.
No, no.

LINCOLN

PETERS nods his head slightly as he looks up at the sky as he

hops into his car.
PETERS
Its getting dark..well, Id say
weve done enough for today. Want
me to drop you home Lincoln?
LINCOLN
Sure, go on.
The duo hop into PETERS car. The engine roars as the two
drive away, out of the church carpark.
CUT TO:
EXT. LINCOLNS HOME - EVENING
PETERS car pulls up outside LINCOLNs home. The home is a
small-ish detached house in a row of other houses. LINCOLN
hops out of the car and closes the door, walking inside.

26.
INT. LINCOLNS HOME - EVENING
LINCOLN walks around his home and into his bedroom, taking
off his suit jacket and tie, tossing them onto the bed. He
walks out of the room and walks around his house, towards the
kitchen. His house looks to be very mild with no unique,
clean or colorful decorating, blinds that seem very old and
dated, old chairs etc.
IN THE KITCHEN
LINCOLN walks into his kitchen and opens up a drawer, taking
out a half full bottle of whiskey and pours himself a drink.
Other bottles of the same brand would be empty, sitting on
the kitchen tables and empty. LINCOLN walks out to his
office.
IN THE OFFICE
LINCOLN sits in a cheap wooden chair in the middle of his
empty room, the desk and chair is the only piece of furniture
in the interior. Although a mattress and cheap sheets is seen
on the ground infront of the wall next to the door. LINCOLN
holds his glass of whiskey in hand, a lit cigarette in
between his fingers. He stares down at the floor, lots of
pictures, files, reports, records cover bits of the floor as
he stares down onto it. He takes a sip of his whiskey before
leaving the cigarette in his mouth.
LINCOLN sighs once as he looks up onto the wall across from
him, a frame sits on the wall completely alone and the only
other bit of furniture in the entire room. The picture inside
is a simple white sheet with a large oval-shape in the middle
of it, painted completely black. The name, Grace Lincoln 29/7/02 in the bottom right corner. LINCOLN looks down back
at the pictures, specifically the pictures of dead bodies as
he sips his drink, his hand slightly shaking. He begins to
roll his cigarette before standing up quickly, even his chair
topples over and he rushes out, grabbing his suit jacket and
car keys.
CUT TO:
INT. PETERS' HOME - NIGHT
IN BEDROOM
PETERS is wearing a vest and cheap jeans, he has his toolkit
next to him and lots of wood, tools, paint and materials
around him. He has his hammer in hand and is finishing off
building a crib. The rooms walls are also just freshly
cleaned pink.

27.
PETERS finishes off building the crib and sighs once, laying
the hammer down. He stretches before standing up and leaving
the room.
IN KITCHEN
PETERS walks into the kitchen, his wife CAITLIN is sitting
down watching TV in the sitting room next to the kitchen. She
is visibly starting to get pregnant. She has her laptop on
her legs and is scrolling through it.
PETERS
The cribs finished, so are the
walls. Just got to let them dry
before we can put in the shelves
and furniture.
CAITLIN
Awh, youre the best Chris. Little
Jess is going to love it, I can
tell.
PETERS
Heh, you know I was thinking about
getting a small dog after we have
her. Couple of the lads at work
said it helps the kids grow up or
something like that.
PETERS is taking out a bottle of wine, pouring himself a
glass.
CAITLIN
Maybe yeah, I dont mind. Although
Id prefer a bichon, theyre
supposed to stay small and not get
bigger.
PETERS
Whatever works best for you hon.
CAITLIN
Hey, did you hear Otto Scott is
planning on building up one of the
old churches in Ballina? I think
its the one on the edge of the
village, that burnt down a few
years back.
PETERS
Otto Scott? Community Leader Otto
Scott?

28.
CAITLIN
Yeah, at the meeting in the
community centre he was talking
about it. Theyre planning to do a
public speaking for it at the
festival next week. You want to
take part in it? I told Otto about
you and he said they could use your
skills, particularly on the
building.
PETERS takes his glass, taking a sip as he walks into the
sitting room
IN SITTING ROOM
PETERS
Yeah why not, Id love to help out.
Hey, yknow I met Judas Norman
today.
CAITLIN
No way, youre lying.
PETERS
No really, Im not. Commissioner
McMann introduced us, he came to
talk about the Devil case.
Something about a new squad coming
into Ballina to help in the case.
CAITLIN
Jesus, that Devil killer. Scares
me, yknow Chris. I sometimes am
scared getting up in the morning,
scared to have Jess. How can I
raise her in a world like this?
PETERS puts his arm around CAITLIN
PETERS
Dont worry Caitlin, well catch
him. We always do, they always slip
up anyway. Ill protect you, Ill
be there for you always.
CAITLIN
And you know, you still havent
brought your partner over for
dinner yet.

29.
PETERS
Ive tried Caitlin, time and time
again I try to get him over but he
doesnt want to, I dont think he
gets out much.
CAITLIN
All the more reason to bring him,
the poor guy has been through a
lot. People are always talking
about some accident with him.
PETERS
What accident?
CAITLIN
I dont know, a family thing or
something. But anyways, hes your
partner. He has to meet us Chris.
PETERS
sighs Alright, Ill keep trying but
really Caitlin, heh I dont know if
you really want to meet him. Hes a
real crazy bastard if you ask me.
CUT TO:
EXT. DOWNHILL INN - NIGHT
LINCOLN's car pulls up into the motel.
place flicker on and off. Shouting and
in the background. LINCOLN gets out of
around the place, a look of disgust on
walks towards some stairs.

The lights in the

dogs barking is heard
his car and looks
his face. He slowly

LINCOLN (V.O.)
I'm looking for a working girl
around Ballina, her name's Hazel
Meduza. You know her right? You're
Jenny Rider?
INT. JENNY'S APARTMENT NIGHT
LINCOLN stands up against a wall, leaning on it as he stares
down at JENNY RIDER, 20's, blonde, dirty, small bruises. The
apartment is full of cheap plastic bags, some toys and the
bed is disfigured. The wall's are dirty and have some small
holes.

30.
JENNY RIDER
(sighing)
Urgh, i'm not sure I'm in the best
state for sex right now..
LINCOLN
Well luckily I'm not here for that
LINCOLN offers her a cigarette. She looks up to him for a
second before she takes one out of the box, slipping it into
her mouth. LINCOLN pulls back the top of the lighter and
lights it up, lighting her cigarette. LINCOLN then takes out
a cigarette from the box and puts it into his mouth,
beginning to light it. JENNY takes a big puff of her
cigarette and looks up to LINCOLN.
JENNY RIDER
So what do you want then?
LINCOLN slips the lighter and pack of cigs into his coat
pocket, then eventually removes a badge. He shows it to
Jenny. She looks down onto it and groans quietly looking
around.
JENNY RIDER (CONTD)
Of course...look Detective, I can
understand you're doing your job
butLINCOLN (INTERRUPTING)
I'm not here for an arrest or shake
down. I'm here for information.
On what?

JENNY RIDER (COCKING HER EYEBROW)

LINCOLN
Hazel Meduza, your roommate.
JENNY RIDER
Hazel? What about her?
LINCOLN
I'm looking for her, she's involved
in one of my murder cases.
JENNY widens her eyes a small bit and pulls a shocked face,
about to speak but LINCOLN raises his hand.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
No, she's not the victim but she
knows the victim.

31.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Was just looking to know if she was
with them or knew who was with them
in the last few weeks.
JENNY RIDER
Well, I haven't seen her for two or
three weeks. Last I heard from her,
she said she had some job to do.
LINCOLN
And what was that?
JENNY stares up at LINCOLN for a second and he stares back,
he begins to nod. LINCOLN pulls out his wallet and opens it
up, taking out a few euro notes. He passes them to JENNY. She
takes them and begins to count them, nodding slowly.
JENNY RIDER
Some prostitute job, large money,
large privacy. Her and a couple of
other girls got involved with it, I
didnt though.
LINCOLN
Whys that?
JENNY RIDER
Ive heard about all them private
prostitute jobs at parties. They
aint good places for a girl to be
around, you either end up dead or
shipped off into slavery or
something. I told Hazel but she
didnt listen, it was all money for
her.
LINCOLN
And who runs these parties?
JENNY RIDER
Thats the thing, nobody knows.
Hell nobody even knows where its
held. Like I said, its all very
private so the only way you could
find out about a party is to speak
with someone who was there.
LINCOLN
You know any girls who have been to
them?
JENNY looks down, raising her eyebrows up once and shakes her
head.

32.
JENNY RIDER
Not any who are alive.
LINCOLN
You know a couple of the other
private girls around the county
right?
Mhm, sure.

JENNY RIDER

LINCOLN
Any of them have any rough
customers lately? Angry, hurtful
anything like that?
JENNY RIDER
We get lots of weird, rough guys
around here. It comes with the
territory. I'm not sure there's a
lot I can give you.
LINCOLN
Maybe you heard stories or
something?
JENNY RIDER
Loads, too many to count. You'd
have to be more specific.
LINCOLN
Maybe a guy who's interested in
fire, burning. That type of stuff?
JENNY RIDER
Ah, we get a lot of those types of
guys. But, I remember one girl down
at a pub was talking drunk and said
something about some fat guy, a
poet or something who tried to burn
her with a stick.
LINCOLN
Oh yeah? When was this?
JENNY RIDER
Couple of weeks back, you won't
find her now though. She skipped
town with a boyfriend of hers.
LINCOLN
Mhm, you ever meet her boyfriend
Dennis?

33.
JENNY RIDER
Dennis? Pfft, that fag? Of course I
did. They dated for a couple of
months but overtime he was more in
love with God and that religion
crap so she left him. I met him
once and he seemed really jumpy, I
think he secretly hated prostitutes
or whatever.
LINCOLN
He ever mention friends or anyone
he hung out with?
JENNY RIDER
Nah, he was pretty quiet and just
liked to talk about religion. Only
friend besides Hazel that he had
must of been God or whatever.
LINCOLN
So I heard that Hazel lived with
her sister? She ever talk about why
she left?
JENNY RIDER
Heh, yeah she lived with "Perfect
Sally" as she called her. She lived
with Sally for a while but she was
always trying to push her into
doing something with her life and
all that, trying to get her to be
just another doctor or nurse. She
left Sally as soon as me and her
became good friends.
LINCOLN nods as he takes out his cigarette and places it down
onto a table, squishing it. He pushes himself off of the
desk.
LINCOLN
Thanks for letting me check out the
place, it will really help in my
investigation. If I need to mention
you at all in my case notes, I'll
put you down as a CI.
JENNY
Youre leaving already? I mean, I
thought you might have stayed. Oh
well..

34.
JENNY bites her lip, smiling trying her luck. LINCOLN stares
at her for a moment, a blank look on his face. He shakes his
head slowly.
LINCOLN
No, I lost the will to love a long
time ago.
JENNY's face quickly turns to confusion as LINCOLN turns and
walks to the door. He opens the door and turns his head.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
You have a nice life Jenny.
LINCOLN leaves, closing the door behind him.
CUT TO:
INT. PETERS HOME - MORNING
PETERS is lying in his bed alongside his wife CAITLIN, his
arm around her as he lays back, relaxed. The sun shines in
through the window.
INT. LINCOLN'S HOME - MORNING
LINCOLN is sitting on his small mattress as he sits up,
smoking a cigarette. He plays with his lighter and looks out
the window, the sun shining in on him.
PETERS (V.O)
Dennis Morgan was known to have
been seeing a private prostitute, a
Hazel Meduza for a while being
before he went to study as a priest
at St. Muirdichs church.
CUT TO:
INT. GARDAI STATION - MORNING
PETERS is standing up at a stage in the conference room and
is speaking to a bunch of Garda men and women. LINCOLN
standing near him.
PETERS
Apparently, he had joined a marine
help group after he left the war.
Uh, Id like you and you. (CONT)
PETERS points to two Garda members.

35.
PETERS (CONTD)
To head down to where he signed up
and ask about Dennis, how he
fought, what he was like, enemies,
friends whatever. Lets see, you
and you.
PETERS points at two other Gards.
PETERS (CONTD)
To run down leads of private
prostitutes, I know it might sound
unheard of but there should
hopefully be something, start with
well known people with sexual
crimes backgrounds maybe. Alright
thats a wrap everyone, me and
Lincoln can take care of the rest.
Everyone begins to pack up their stuff and leave the room,
LINCOLN and PETERS stand up, leaving.
INT.MORGUE, GARDA STATION - MORNING
LINCOLN and PETERS are standing next to a gurney as the
CORONER walks around, talking.
CORONER
Id say he probably died at around
7pm or 8pm on maybe the 5th of May,
2004. Somewhere in between that
timeframe. It appears that the burn
marks are the same as always, with
some sort of weapon from a furnace.
Maybe, a sword or something like
that?
PETERS
A sword? Youre sure?
CORONER
Its the closest thing I could come
to, too big to be a knife. Now here
is where it gets really
interesting.
The CORONER pulls back the sheet from DENNIS, showing off his
chest. A stab wound is seen on his heart.
CORONER (CONTD)
This stab wound, it looks like it
was the first move the killer made
right?

36.
PETERS
Youre going to argue different?
CORONER
No, Im telling you. The wound on
the heart was the latter of all the
wounds. Maybe the killer did it out
of mercy or something like that.
PETERS
Id be surprised if this guy felt
anything at all really.
LINCOLN
What about the cuts on the legs?
Theyre confirmed to be self
inflicted?
CORONER
Absolutely, the only prints on that
knife were his. None else, same
with the blood. This man cut
himself on the legs Detectives.
PETERS
Self inflicted, hm. It could be
possible the killer was holding him
down and forced him to do it
LINCOLN
Are there any rope burns or maybe
cuff shapes on his wrists?
CORONER
None, the only wounds I could find
were the knife wounds and the
burns. Nothing else that seemed out
of the ordinary. The autopsy also
reports no drugs or alcohol in his
system neither. But this.
The CORONER walks to his desk and picks up the metal figure,
bringing it back to the duo.
CORONER (CONTD)
This, this I dont even know what
to call it. People around the house
are calling it a toy. So Ill call
it a toy. This toy has no
fingerprints, although on one side
it has one print from an index
finger, Dennis. Id say Dennis did
nothing more than touch it though.

37.
PETERS nods his head, looking down on the body. LINCOLN is
writing in his journal, a small decent drawing of DENNIS
body, labelled with the wounds on his body and small bits of
information to the side.
INT. DETECTIVE OFFICES, GARDA STATION - MORNING
LINCOLN is sitting at his desk, hunched back in his seat as
he stares at the metal man figure on his desk. He is staring
intently at it. PETERS is in the background, talking with a
few other detectives.
GARD BRIAN
Jesus, is it like a toy or some
shit? Some of the lads are saying
its a message or some shit.
GARD
Nah, its too shittily made to be a
toy. It must be like an arts and
crafts thing or something.
GARD #2
I think its a signature, or some
shit like that.
LINCOLN
Its for a ritual.
The group look towards LINCOLN.
A what?

GARD

LINCOLN
A ritual, to pray to. Its his
cross, what he leaves. Its for
them to pray to.
GARD BRIAN
And what makes you say that?
LINCOLN throws up his hands, shrugging.
God.

LINCOLN

A couple of Gards laugh, some shaking their heads. The front

door opens and in walks COMMISSIONER MCMANN and four other
men, following him. The Fintan Squad.
LINCOLN (CONTD)
Who are they?

38.
PETERS turns to face the group as they approach. MCMANN
flicks his chin up to PETERS as he approaches.
MCMANN
Detective Peters, Detective
Lincoln. Id like you to meet the
Fintan Squad.
LINCOLN
Fintan Squad?
LINCOLN looks over each of the members of the squad, he shows
a face of disgust.
MCMANN
Yes Lincoln, theyve come from
Waterford. To help in the Devil
case, under Judas Normans control.
LINCOLN
The Lord Mayor brought in his own
task force? Well, well.
MCMANN
sighs This is Detective Miles,
Detective Wayne and Detective
OBrian.
MCMANN points to each individual member as he names them off.
PETERS leans in and gives each of them a handshake.
PETERS
Nice to meet you all, we appreciate
your help on this. We really do.
DET. O'BRIAN
Hey thanks Detective Peters, were
not trying to step on any of your
toes on this. We just want to help.
PETERS
Yeah, yeah I understand OBrian.
DET. O'BRIAN
Would it be possible for us to
maybe see your notes on the case?
Get us upto speed?
PETERS
Uh yeah sure, why not. I think we
have a file room with some notes
and all that.

39.
DET. O'BRIAN
Thanks, we really appreciate it.
MCMANN
What about you guys, did you get
anything today?
LINCOLN
Not much sir, bits and pieces.
MCMANN
Well, hopefully the Fintan Squad
can give some help. Now, follow me
this way fellas. I believe Judas
Norman is waiting for us in my
office. Right this way.
MCMANN leaves and the Fintan Squad follows. LINCOLN turns in
his seat, watching them leave as does PETERS. The Squad
approach MCMANNs office, JUDAS NORMAN and an older man greet
the group, nodding and smiling.
PETERS
Thats not Otto Scott is it?
LINCOLN
I dont fucking believe it.
PETERS
Whats a community leader got to do
with a murder investigation?
LINCOLN
Complete horse shit it all is, Lord
Mayors task force. Pfft, just
coming in and taking the case off
of us.
PETERS
They seem alright, doesnt matter
if they take the case from us. Just
aslong as they help out and try to
solve it.
LINCOLN
Looks to me like theyre coming in
so they can get the badges when the
case is over, if it ever is.
PETERS
Well catch him one day Lincoln,
one day.

40.
LINCOLN doesnt answer and sits back into his desk, PETERS
sighs and shakes his head before standing up.
PETERS (CONTD)
Yknow what? Im going to head out
to the village, somebody must know
Morgan, someone. You coming?
LINCOLN
No, I think Ill stay here. Look
over case files.
PETERS
Right, talk to you later Lincoln.
Call me if you come up with
anything.
LINCOLN nods lightly as PETERS picks up his coat, throwing it
over himself. He marches out of the office, LINCOLN sits in
silence before he gets up and opens up his desk drawer,
taking out some keys.
INT. FILE ROOM - MORNING
The room is dark and empty. Until, the door opens and the
light flickers on. LINCOLN, walks in and shuts the door,
locking it again. Hes there again, peace and quiet. He walks
to a desk next to the door and flips open a log book. He
places his finger down and brings it down through the
alphabetical words, until he comes to the R section and
slows down a bit before stopping at a word and taps his
finger on it, Ritual - Isle 15. LINCOLN steps up and walks
to the ISLES, counting under his breath. He stops at 15 and
withdraws a large box of files, 2003 written on the side.
He slams them down onto a desk, before sitting at it himself.
He opens it up, taking out the files one by one. The box is
small with little to no files in it.
He flips open the files, digging through them. LINCOLN comes
to the first page and is greeted with a close up of a body, a
crucifix scarred across their head. LINCOLN reads through the
notes, shaking his head lightly. He flips over pages, trying
to find something. He shakes his head as nothing new comes up
and slams it shut in anger. He stands up.
-LINCOLN comes back with another box, 2002 written on the
side. He begins to look through the files, more writing, more
images of bodies. Nothing new.

41.
He picks up another box, 2001. The box opens, more files,
more pictures, more notes.
LINCOLN keeps picking, box after box and still comes out
empty handed. The time begins to change as LINCOLN sits back,
stretching. He throws his hands over his face.
CUT TO:
EXT. SPAR, BALLINA VILLAGE - AFTERNOON
PETERS is standing outside Spar, alone and speaking with a
small group of people talking.
PETERS
You ever see this man? Dennis
Morgan, training to be a priest?
The group shakes their heads.
EXT. MARKETS, BALLINA VILLAGE - AFTERNOON
PETERS is talking with the owner of a food stand in a busy
market.
PETERS
What about him? Know him at all?
Nope.

FOOD STAND OWNER

EXT. BUSY ROAD, BALLINA VILLAGE - AFTERNOON

PETERS is talking with a passer-byer.
PASSER-BYER
I mean, he looks familiar but nah I
dont think I ever met him.
EXT. PARK, BALLINA VILLAGE - AFTERNOON
PETERS is talking with an older woman outside of her home.
His tone of voice is clearly stressed and bland
PETERS
Dennis Morgan? You see him?
The woman squints at it and moves her head closer, nodding
lightly.

42.
OLD WOMAN
Yes, I believe so. He done
confession before at St.
Muirdichs! Hes a nice young lad.
PETERS raises his eyebrows and stands up straighter, nodding
lightly.
PETERS
Oh really? You know him personally?
OLD WOMAN
Not really no, but I saw him loads
of times at the community centre.
Thats where he stayed mostly, he
fought there for more religious
systems in Ballina.
PETERS nods, smirking as he closes up his file.
CUT TO:
EXT. BALLINA COMMUNITY CENTRE - AFTERNOON
The community centre looks to be very popular, herds of
people stand outside and talk. PETERS passes by them, walking
inside.
INT. BALLINA COMMUNITY CENTRE - AFTERNOON
PETERS paces up through the centre, greeting many people
informally.
Chris.
John.

MAN
PETERS

He finally arrives upto the main desk, he nods to the worker.

PETERS (CONTD)
Good afternoon Jane, hows the
kids?
JANE
Great Chris, thanks for asking. And
Caitlin?
PETERS
Shes fine, six months time and
well be having little old Jess.

43.
JANE
Awh, you have a name already?
Thats great, how can I help you
anyway?
PETERS
Im looking for Otto Scott,
speaking to him about an
investigation. The victim worked
here, is he in?
JANE
Yeah, hes in. At his office I
think, cmon Ill bring you to him.
PETERS nods as JANE steps up. He follows her.
INT. FILE ROOM - AFTERNOON
LINCOLN sits in his chair, lit cigarette in hand. The room is
silent, the floor is decorated with multiple files and
pictures. It goes in order, from 1995 to 2002. LINCOLN stares
down at the photographs, as the smoke from the cigarette
puffs up into the air.
He stares for a couple of other seconds before he moves on to
1994, he removes the head of the box and takes out the
files, putting them onto the desk. He reads over it quickly,
taking a drag of his cig. His face is blank until he squints
once, staring down at the picture. It is a little girl, no
older than 10. Her face is pale white. LINCOLN shakes his
head lightly as he looks over the notes, reading through
them.
LINCOLN places his cigarette into a cup as he reads through
it. His eyes stick to the page.
CUT TO:
INT. OTTO SCOTT'S OFFICE, BALLINA COMMUNITY CENTRE AFTERNOON
OTTO SCOTT, 50s, plump, almost bald, sits in his chair. Many
awards and medals fill the walls around him. Community of
the Year, Community Leader of the Year: Otto Scott,
Pictures of Otto taking a medal from other people, a grin on
his face and finally a picture on the wall: JUDAS NORMAN,
MCMANN and OTTO SCOTT huddled together, shoulder to shoulder
and arms wrapped around eachother smiling.
The door swings open and in walks, PETERS and JANE. OTTO
looks up, grinning. He nods to PETERS.

44.
JANE
Mr. Scott, Detective Peters would
like to speak with you.
OTTO SCOTT
Thank you Jane.
JANE leaves, closing the door behind PETERS.
PETERS
Good to see you Otto, really great.
OTTO SCOTT
Same with you Chris! Cmon sit
down, sit sit.
PETERS shakes hands with OTTO, sitting himself down.
OTTO SCOTT (CONTD)
So whats up Chris? Is there a
community call or a police one?
PETERS
A police one Im afraid, Ive got a
murder Otto.
OTTO SCOTT
Dennis Morgan, the Devil case
right?
PETERS
Yeah, howd you know?
OTTO SCOTT
Ah, Judas Norman introduced me
today to the Fintan Squad. Im sure
youve heard of them yeah? (CONTD)
PETERS nods.
OTTO SCOTT (CONTD)
He told me to tell the community
heads not to panic about the squad
and that everything will work out
perfectly. But anyway, you were
saying?
PETERS
Right, Dennis Morgan. Ive heard he
worked out here on religious terms
yes?

45.
OTTO SCOTT
Yes indeed, he was apart of the
religious department here.
PETERS
I just want to know, was there
anyone out here who maybe disliked
him in some way or had a problem
with him?
OTTO SCOTT
Ah I see, youre looking for a list
of suspects right?
PETERS
Pretty much yeah, Ive got a couple
of Gards looking into his war
background, his time at
St.Muirdichs seems okay. So Im
checking here.
OTTO SCOTT
Right, well yeah there are a few
people here and there that over the
years have been a bit...round the
bend. But if you give me a couple
of hours or a day or two. I could
have my office send you a copy of
names and addresses?
PETERS
Yeah, thatd be great yeah. Send
them over to my desk at the station
whenever you get them.
OTTO SCOTT
Of course, youre still on for
helping us at the festival next
week correct?
PETERS
Yep, still on. I can bring my own
tools for building anyway.
OTTO SCOTT
Perfect, Caitlin will be there
aswell?
Mhmm.

PETERS

OTTO SCOTT
Right, well unless theres anything
else youd like to know?

46.
PETERS
No, thats it thanks. Ill talk to
you later.
OTTO SCOTT
Yes, indeed. Ill see you later.
Well talk soon.
PETERS nods his head once and stands up, adjusting his suit
before walking out the door.
CUT TO:
INT. PETERS' HOME - NIGHT
The front door opens, the house is pretty quiet and some dim
lights are still on. PETERS walks in, his clothes a bit
adjusted. Hes exhausted. He closes the door and locks up for
the night. He walks into the kitchen.
He pours himself a nice, small glass of whiskey before
walking to his bedroom.
PETERS stands at the door and grins lightly, staring in at
his sleeping wife as he takes a sip of his drink. He turns
his head forward and looks at a door, Jess Room a pink
sign on the door.
PETERS smirks as he lowers his head, walking into the
bedroom.
INT. BEDROOM, PETERS HOME - NIGHT
Darkness, a very dim blue light shines in through the window.
Everything is quiet until. BZZZ. A phone on the table next to
the bed rings. BZZZ BZZZ, it continues to ring. PETERS raises
his head up slowly and picks up the phone, sighing.
Hello?
Peters?

PETERS (HALF ASLEEP)

MAN ON PHONE

PETERS
Yeah? Whos this?
DET. O'BRIAN (O.S)
Detective OBrian, from the Fintan
Squad?

47.
PETERS
OBrian, yeah..Yeah right, what can
I do for you?
DET. O'BRIAN (O.S)
Not really what you can do for me,
but what you can do for your
partner. Hes down here at the
Merry Monk and hes pissed. Its
almost closing time and hes
refusing to leave, he keeps
blabbering on about the Devil case
and some Grace, I dont know.
PETERS
Right, yeah I get it. Ill be down
there soon.
DET. O'BRIAN (O.S)
Thanks, yeah.
PETERS lowers his phone and shakes his head, sighing as he
stands up.
CUT TO:
EXT. MERRY MONKS - NIGHT
PETERS hops out of his car in cheap clothes, barely even
adjusted. He shakes his head as he marches over to the bar.
He pushes the door open.
INT. MERRY MONKS - NIGHT
PETERS walks inside and looks around the bar, LINCOLN is
sitting at the bar a glass in hand and a cigarette between
his fingers. A couple of other guys standing at the pool
table, watch over him. The bartender, Ray stands at the bar,
clearly angered. He has a plaster on his temple. OBRIAN
approaches PETERS.
O'BRIAN
Hey thanks for coming.
PETERS
Yeah, yeah its the best I can do.
Hes my partner.

48.
O'BRIAN
Yeah hes been just blabbing off
the last few minutes, most of the
customers are gone. Its just him
causing everything.
PETERS
Did he make any scenes?
O'BRIAN
Thankfully not no, but he scared a
couple of people out with the files
from the Devils case. Really
though I think you should get him
home.
PETERS
Yeah I will, you can tell the owner
to pack everything up. Thanks for
the call again.
OBRIAN nods and turns, walking back to his pool table where
the other Squad members are. PETERS exhales deeply and
approaches LINCOLN, blinking roughly.
PETERS (CONTD)
Lincoln, hey man.
Hey.

LINCOLN

PETERS
You alright? Long night?
LINCOLN
Every nights a long night Peters,
every night.
PETERS
Yeah, youre telling me. Uh, listen
the Monks closing up now. Can I
get you home? Really, its almost
three in the morning.
LINCOLN
This isnt the first ritual murder
Peters.
PETERS
Yeah, I know. Ballina has
experienced some ritual murders in
the past.

49.
LINCOLN
I mean the Devil case, its been
done before.
PETERS
What are you on about? Look, youre
probably past a dozen drinks now.
Youre causing a lot of shit
infront of the Fintan Squad, they
could rat you out to McMann. If
that happens, we could get taken
off the case. And I know you dont
want that.
LINCOLN exhales, glancing back at the Squad before getting up
from his seat and dropping his cigarette into the half empty
glass of beer. He picks up his files and leaves, PETERS tails
after him.
INT. LINCOLNS HOME - NIGHT
The front door swings open, in walks LINCOLN and PETERS.
LINCOLNs hair is all messed up and his shirt is untucked. He
holds his file in hand and turns, closing the door. He nods
his head once as he paces to the kitchen.
LINCOLN
Finally, alright listen. In Spring
1994, a little girl called Barbara
Dwyer was found killed in her home
by her own dad.
Lincoln

PETERS

LINCOLN
She was found in a ritual state,
with her wrists and throat slit.
Lincoln.

PETERS

LINCOLN
She lived alone with her father, he
had no priors or anything bad on
his record. He seemed to be a great
person and dad, hell he was a
humanist. In his statement, he felt
like he didnt do it and was
controlled.
IN THE KITCHEN

50.
LINCOLN opens up a pantry and takes out a glass of whiskey.
PETERS walks in behind him and looks around at the table, it
is still filled with empty bottles. He shakes his head and
gives LINCOLN a sympathetic look. LINCOLN picks up a glass,
ready to pour himself a drink. PETERS steps in and takes a
bottle from him.
PETERS
Lincoln just...stop youve had your
fair share of drinks tonight. This
whole thing youre talking about,
its just the drink talking.
LINCOLN
No, no theres something here. A
connection.
PETERS
To the devil case? How, where?
Theres no burn marks, the killer
was caught. The only thing you have
is some statement from a dad that
said he was mind controlled.
LINCOLN
Cmon, there has to be..there has
to be something.
LINCOLN breaks down, shaking his head as he repeats the
sentence as mutter under his breath.
PETERS
Lincoln look, youre drunk and
tired. The case is hard yeah, we
have no leads right now but well
get there alright? We will find
something somewhere but here?
Youre reaching Lincoln, youre
reaching.
LINCOLN lowers his head and sighs once.
PETERS (CONTD)
Look, just head to bed. Take a sick
day tomorrow, Ill tell McMann you
werent feeling so good. Ill pick
you up on Saturday, at 12 alright?
Ill get you a glass of water, just
head into bed.
PETERS nods to LINCOLN, patting him on the back. LINCOLN
keeps silent and turns, walking to his bedroom. PETERS sighs
and picks up the empty glass, turning on the tap and filling
it up with water.

51.
He looks over at the bottles on the table, gulping once as he
looks back down. He steps back and walks to LINCOLNs bedroom
with the glass in hand. He pushes open the door and looks
inside, empty. A bed, softly made but it looks untouched like
it hasnt been touched in years.
PETERS crosses his eyebrows as he looks inside. A door behind
him opens.
In here.

LINCOLN

LINCOLN turns and walks away from the door. PETERS walks into
the office.
IN THE OFFICE
PETERS walks inside and widens his eyes a bit as he looks
around, a mattress on the ground. LINCOLN removes his jacket
and shirt, tossing them to the ground carelessly. PETERS
stares around the room and notices a couple of boxes marked
Devil case with each year marked on them from 2001 to 2004
and a large stacks of books next to the mattress. Psychology
books, books on the human mind, serial killer books. PETERS
steps up to LINCOLN and passes him the glass. LINCOLN grabs
it and takes a quick sip, leaving it on the ground next to
him. PETERS steps back up and turns around, looking to the
wall behind him. He sees the picture of the large black oval
shape. PETERS crosses his eyebrows at it before turning back.
PETERS
Hey uh its pretty late so Im
going to head home. You take care
of yourself alright? Get some good
sleep, you need it. Ill pick you
up on Saturday.
LINCOLN
Yeah, alright. Thanks Peters.
PETERS
Hey, no problem. Were partners
right?
PETERS turns and walks out, LINCOLN follows. Hes about to
close the office door before PETERS turns.
PETERS (CONTD)
Hey, whats with that picture in
there of the black oval?
LINCOLN gulps once, squinting a bit. He hesitates.

52.
LINCOLN
Reflection.
PETERS cant even answer, LINCOLN shuts the door just after
saying the word. PETERS exhales and turns, walking to the
door.
CUT TO:
EXT. OLD, DIRTY TWO STORY HOUSE. - NIGHT
The dirty old white house is seen again, everything is silent
until the a large sound is heard. TICK TOCK, TICK TOCK. An
old grandfathers clock goes off, it ticks away as a sound of
struggling is heard. We pull back slowly as an old rusted
pick up truck comes into frame, along with a log from a cut
down tree. On the log, the metal burned stickman is seen
standing. In the pick-up, another metal burned stickman is
seen on the dash.
