Vincent van Gogh

(Groot-Zundert, Netherlands, 1853 - Auvers-sur-Oise, France, 1890) Dutch painter. In the final decades of the
nineteenth century, Impressionism marked the beginning of a profound renewal of the visual arts that would
have continuity in the succession of isms or currents of contemporary art. Some of the best teachers of this
period, however, can not be typecast in any school, and opened new paths for themselves; including the Dutch
Van Gogh occupies a landmark position.
In 1873 he went to the branch of Goupil Gallery in London, where he had to suffer the first of his sentimental
failures; in 1875 he was transferred to the Paris branch; in 1876 he took leave and returned to Holland. He
later worked as a teacher, assistant pastor of a Methodist bookstore clerk; none of these jobs will last long. By
then felt especially need spiritual surrender to their peers; in fact, he had always wanted to be a pastor, like his
father, and this vocation took him to Amsterdam to continue his theological studies, which suspended.
He then went on to the School of Evangelism Practice Brussels, and in 1878 was sent by his superiors to the
Borinage mining area. Established in Pturages village, near Mons, made a series of drawings of miners. The
School of Evangelism expelled for excessive involvement: subhuman impressed by their hardships, Van Gogh
came to give the miners what little he had and to live more poorly than they.

Adele
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known as interacionalmente English singer Adele, was born on May 5, 1988 in the
British city of Tottenham, north London.
Daughter of a teenage single mother, Adele comenzo to sing at the age of 4 years, with an interest since the

Winehouse, Katie Melua and Kate Nash. Four months later he released two songs in the online journal
performing arts.
Adele recently won the MTV Movie Awards 2011 Award for his song "Rolling in the Deep", in the categories
Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography. He had previously won two Grammy awards in 2009
in the categories Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; in addition to the prizes BMI
London Awards, BRIT Awards, European Border Breakers Awards, Glamour Women of the Year Awards, IFPI
Platinum Europe Awards and Urban Music Awards and other multiple nominations.

Mary Shelley
Daughter of philosopher William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft writer and feminist.
A few days after his birth his mother, who had written Vindication of Women Rights, died of a fever leaving her
husband to care for Mary and her sister Fanny Imlay three and a half years. Godwin later married a widow who
had two daughters with which the philosopher would illuminate a new stem.
In 1814, at sixteen years old, Mary left home and country with the poet Percy Shelley, with whom he had
begun a relationship despite being married. The couple traveled to France and Switzerland.
Madly in love with Percy B. Shelley from the first time I saw him, Godwin, I did not put any qualms to run after
him. Was not that the case of the wife of the poet who, humiliated, insulted and embarrasses the happy couple
went to La Spezia, town on the Italian coast where they settled. A deductible derangements of such a situation

Henry Dunant (1828-1910)

The man whose vision gave rise to the creation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red
Crescent; He went from millionaire to pauper and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
Born in Geneva on May 8, 1828, Dunant comes from a very pious and charitable Calvinist family. Without
having finished high school apprenticeship training starts in a Geneva bank. In 1853, he arrives in Algeria to
take charge of the management of the Swiss colony of Setif. It launches in the construction of a mill for wheat,
but does not get the grant essential for its operation territory. After a trip to Tunisia he returned to Geneva. He
decided to approach Napoleon III to obtain the document he needed.
At that time, the Emperor was commanding the Franco-Sardinian fighting in northern Italy against the Austrian
troops. Henry Dunant decides to go to the site itself to meet him. Presence and the end of the battle of Solfer
ino, in Lombardy.

Back in Geneva, wrote I wrote A Memory of Solferino, which later lead to the creation of the International
Committee for Relief to the Wounded (future International Committee of the Red Cross). Dunant is a member
of the Committee and assumes its secretariat. Since then he becomes famous and is received by heads of
state, kings and princes of the European courts. But their business go wrong and, in 1867, declares
bankruptcy. Totally ruined, acquires a debt of nearly a million francs of the time.

Jane Goodall
(London, 1934) Zoologist and British anthropologist. Jane Goodall was born in London on April 3, 1934, and
grew up in the town of Bournemouth (south coast of England). On his second birthday, his father gave him a
toy chimpanzee named Jubilee, which Jane encari from the outset and today, many years later, still sitting in
a chair at his home in England.

At age four he felt very curious to know where the eggs out of the hen, which led her to spend several hours

The Statue of Liberty


It tells the brief history that the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the United States to commemorate

On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty in New York was opened by its creator, F. A. Bartholdi. The day was
declared a holiday and despite the rain and fog, over a million people took to the streets of New York to
celebrate. New York harbor was filled with boats of all sizes not want to miss the event. The ceremony was
attended by dignitaries from both countries. On behalf of the United States President Grover Cleveland and his

cabinet, as well as the governor of New York and his staff. By France, he attended its ambassador,
accompanied by the French Committee.

The Great Wall of China or Chngchng ( "long fortress") was built in the Qin Dynasty, 200 years
before Christ, in order to protect themselves from the attacks of the inhabitants of modern
Mongolia. Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, famous among other things to make the terracotta soldiers
of Xian, unified the Empire in 221 BC and joined the stretches of previously constructed wall. For
the next thousand years of the reconstruction, the wall came to have 7300 km long.
The chronicles say that for 2100 years, from the V century BC to the sixteenth century, the
Chinese were protected with fortifications invasions of the northern nomads. And its main
purpose was not to prevent it from being crossed, but rather prevent the invaders brought with
them horses.

The Colosseum in Rome


Until the twentieth century no building capacity exceeded the amphitheater Flavio, the
Colosseum, intended to accommodate the bloody fun with the emperors courted the people of

Gladiatorial games, naval battles, fights with animals ... The Flavio amphitheater, better known
as Coliseum perhaps by the colossal statue of Nero that stood in the cercanas-, public
entertainment was part of ancient Rome. The famous Latin expression bread and circuses (bread
and circuses) summed up everything that the rulers of the city required to manage the mob and
keep her entertained. Up to 50,000 spectators could attend the bloody fun with the emperors
courted the people. There are many myths surrounding the fight of gladiators. For example a

beyond these details, everything else seems to have been true, dramatically true: the spectacle
of gore extolled the spirits of the spectators, who were trapped by addiction to the amphitheater.
The construction of the Colosseum began under Emperor Vespasian around the year 71 A.D., in a
space that had been released after a fire in a former amphitheater built almost a hundred years
ago. The -whose opening celebrations lasted for a hundred days- occurred in 80 and already
under the reign of his son Titus. Finally, the emperor Domitian completed the works in 82, adding
a top floor.
