Children under the age of 18, live under poverty


all over the world. However being that Texas is
such a large state with several cities, sub cities,
and towns with a high rate of diversity of races
and ethnic backgrounds it offers a large amount
of valuable information.
As of 2016 Texas was rated 31st in percentage of
children living in poverty in the United States with
its neighboring state New Mexico ranked the
highest, 51st.

Behind was a U.S. Act
of Congress which
reauthorized the
Elementary and
Secondary Education
Act; it included Title I
provisions applying to
disadvantaged
students. However, in
one of the clauses of
the act it spoke of
unsatisfactory
children. The act
assists in children in
the financial burdens
of school for youth
and their family.
However the
government is unable
to assist the children if
their academic status
is unsatisfactory
each case is
discretionary, there is

throughout their youth years grow up to become
adults with anxiety issues, addictive personalities,
mental health problems and anger issues.
Statistics show that majority of inmates
incarcerated in Texas Prisons have a childhood
filled with violence, drugs, crime, financial
instability and multiple homes syndrome.
Girls who grow up in poverty also gravitate
towards multiple adult relationships in search of
stability. As well as more likely to enter into
abusive relationships. A study done by the
Women of Nations Eagle Nest Shelter showed
that majority of battered women in their care
were raised in a home where financial issues lead
to many arguments as well as the necessity of
survival.
Necessity of survival- surviving by any means
necessary. (prostitution, drug sales, theft)

You will be comforted to know that the
percentages have only increased in the
past years.

One of the biggest confusions with child


poverty is the infomercials that state, for a
quarter a day you can feed By airing
these ads as often as they do there is a
misunderstanding that child poverty and
hunger is only overseas. A measure that we
should be taking is feeding and providing
for our own children, how can we help any
other nation when ours has yet to be free of
hunger and poverty
