When looking at the project named Hoops for Hope, strong project management skills are

required. The project is a basketball tournament; there is a $40 fee per enter the game. Raised
money goes to Down Syndrome Association. Also, there are t-shirts available for sale, money
from which will go to the association as well. Gift baskets will be given to the winning teams
that gathered from local restaurants and businesses. It is highly recommended for a project
manager to use strong leadership skills in situations such as dealing with local businesses and
restaurants in order to get their support for this event and getting baskets from them; also when
dealing with the t-shirt provider, getting clothes from the store. Strong interpersonal skills are
required when it comes to dealing with promoting the event, gathering required information,
getting in touch with required people for the event to happen.
In order for the project to be successful, the manager should be aware that a good team is
the key to successful outcome of any project. As mentioned in the textbook, a team member as
well as the project manager should be proactive, systems thinkers, optimists, skillful
politicians and should have personal integrity, high emotional intelligence, general
business perspective as well as effective time management (p.360, Larson & Gray). Also, the
project manager should make sure that there is a good relationship between the team members
and manager, as well as team members should trust the manager and vice versa (p.362, Larson &
Gray).
When it comes to the final outcomes that could be attributed to the actions of the project
manager, a good manager knows how The Five-Stage Team Development Model is important
to the project; because the manager looks at all stages that happen in the team such as forming a
group, storming ideas and clearing out the demands of the project, norming, or in other words,
exchanging information about the project, performing, showing the results of the actions taken
during the project and, finally, adjourning, which is basically dissolution of the group (p.377
Larson & Gray).
