WAYS TO PROTECT
YOURSELF

REDUCE ANY RISKY BEHAVIORS

KNOW YOUR STATUS

Free or low cost STD and HIV testing is available all
across Central Virginia.
You should get tested for HIV/AIDS if you have
been, or are, sexually active.
USE A CONDOM

Risky sexual behaviors are defined by the increased risk of a negative

outcome, which can increase the chance of contracting or transmitting
HIV/AIDS.
Risky Sexual Behaviors include:

Keep male condoms in a cool, dry place. Don't keep

them in your wallet or in your car. This can cause
them to break or tear.
Use a new condom if you want to have sex again or
in a different way.

Having more than one sexual partner

Changing sexual partners frequently
Having oral or anal sexual contact without a condom

REDUCE YOUR SEXUAL PARTNERS

The number of sex partners you have affects your
chances of getting HIV. The more partners you have,
the more likely you are to have a partner with
HIV/AIDS.

Anal sex is the riskiest type of sex for HIV transmission
