Lifespan of Harnesses, Lanyards, and other

synthetic fibre products

As the manufacturer we recommend that Checkmate harnesses, lanyards, and
other products made from synthetic fibres, have a life span of five years from
date of first use. This recommendation is a guideline only and the equipment
still needs to be inspected & maintained as set out in the instructions. In
addition, the HSE guidelines set out in INDG367 must be followed.
Prior to first use, the product may be stored for up to five years. It must be
stored in a clean dry place, protected from damage, chemical attack, sharp
objects, heat, moisture & direct sunlight. It should be stored with its
instructions & record card at all times.
Every synthetic fibre product needs to be visually inspected before use and
regularly inspected by a Competent Person.
The five year storage plus five years in service is a guideline only and could be
shortened or exceeded by proper inspection & maintenance. Likewise it may
be necessary to remove the item prior to this, depending on the condition of
the product.
Ultimately it is the responsibility of the end-user to determine if the product is
fit for use and/or should be removed from service.
Please dispose of your product in a way that prevents further use.
