Size of the load and overall conditions


Footwear has rm grip on the oor
Floor is clear of obstacles
Lifting devices, e.g. forklifts, carts and trucks, are present and undamaged
Walking distance between locations is as short as possible

DO

Use aids where possible


Carry heavy objects with a co-worker or lifting device
Alternate lifting activities with other tasks
Give objects handles at hip height to improve the grip
Always lift with both hands and make sure both feet are on the oor
Stand close to the object and keep the load close to the abdomen
Bend knees and keep body straight when lifting

Move slowly and smoothly when lifting

DO NOT

Bend and lift unnecessarily


Carry objects with a high frequency
Twist your body while lifting the object (beware of repetitive movement)
Push and pull heavy loads
Use your back muscles to do lifting
Attempt team lifting without proper coordination
