What is welding?
join together (metal parts) by heating the surfaces to the point of melting with a blowpipe,
electric arc, or other means, and uniting them by pressing, hammering, etc.

Homogenous
Heterogeneous
Autogenous
Dissimilar/Transition

Homogenous:
Parent metal and weld (Filler) metal are same. A fusion weld made with filler , in
which the filler is similar to basemetal chemical and mechanical properties . Examples, Arc welding like
SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, GMAW etc.
Heterogeneous:
Parent metal is same but weld metal is different. A fusion weld made with filler
material which is different from the parent material - Examples are Soldering and Brazing
Autogenous:
A fusion weld made without filler metal. - Examples are Solid Phase welding, resistance welding,
sometimes GTAW used in tube to tubesheet in Heat Dissimilar/Transition:

Two different parent material

Joints:
1- Configuration of member
2- Penetration
