Mr Mathur failed to create a desired response because of the impatient behavior &
preconceived notions of Mr gupta who seemed not to be an active listner.Instead of
understanding the value of building networks & global concepts idea as told by Mr
Mathur,Gupta took it otherwise as subtle criticism. No flexibility in terms of new
concepts & thoughts whatsoever as shown by gupta,as he continue to think his way
of doing things is absolutely right & any diversion from these would lead to
compromise in his professional competence & dedication.
Guidelines which I would have given to Mr gupta are mentioned below:
1)Focus on Goals : Clear goals make decision making easier & helps you to
eliminate options that are inconsistent.Set your goals as per the need of the hour &
as the Boss demands.without goals you cant be rational & you dont know what
information is relevant or irrelevant. It would be difficult to find alternatives & you
are likely to experience regret in the long run.
2)Be confident & not over confident : Look for information that disconfirms your
beliefs. This is one of the most effective way of counteracting overconfidence & the
confirmation is to look for info that contradicts your assumptions. In this case Mr
gupta overtly consider his ways as right & thought hez smarter than he actually
was.
3)Understand the importance of Team work & Network .Avoid individual differences
with others.
4)Avoid Pre conceived notions : Dont try to create meaning out of random
events.Without finding reasons Mr gupta kept on inventing negative thoughts for his
senior & for Mr Mathur.Understanding the cause effect relationship in a positive
attitude.
5)Rational Decision making : Increase your options,no matter how many times Mr
gupta has tried to explain about the project,he should have been working on more
alternatives & using some creativity in developing a wide range of choices.The more
alternatives he would have presented,greater the chances were of being accepted
by his senior.
6)Self Management & Self Evaluation : Learning techniques that allows individuals
to manage their own behavior so that less external management control is
necessary.Mr gupta should have the ability to manage his emotions & impulses.
