Empire

The Empire survived. It did not fall when Remus became emperor. It did not fall when Iris
entered the city gates. It did not fall when the palace walls were torn down. Even as the lifeless bodies
of the imperial family danced to the barbaric chants, the Empire still stood. The seat of the empire was
lost, and what remained of the Senate and the aristocracy fled the city in search of sanctuary to the east.
The homelands were abandoned, as streams of imperial citizens departed east across land and sea. I
watched their desperate bid for freedom as they were slaughtered like pigs by the barbarian invaders.
The deaths of my countrymen did not concern me however; I had a contract to complete.
I emerged from the shadowy corridors of the fallen city, navigating the winding streets toward
my target. I wore crimson attire An assassin had no need for camouflage.
