In order to replace a city which had been washed away in a
flood as the result of the misconduct (an allusion, I believe,
to an actual his torical event), the hermit vasudera selected
a site on the Ping River Which wound be suitable for a new

city. Then he sets out to find the person full of merit who
wound be able to rule the future city, which is to say the
future state.
Another hermit, his friend Sukkadanta, suggest that he asks
the King of Lavo to permit his daughter to fullfill thart role.
Lavo, or Lavapura, was at the time a Mon city as is confirmed
by the inscriptions. This took place in AD 768 as determined
by caedes (confirmed by Hans Penth). Princess Camadevi
was the cvife of the King of Ramannagara (or of the uparaja governing the
city of Ramannagara near Lava pura).
As we have seen, however, this name Ramannagara
designates the Kingdowm of thef Mon, and it is customary
to locate it in Lower Burma. So far as I know, no other writer
has sought to puzzale over this disturbing face. What Kingdowm
is really meant here?
Camadevi, the three months pregnant, receives her father's permissions,
leaves her husband there, and set out for what
will be Haripunjaya.
******** ********* **********
After Camadevi was enthroned at Haripunjaya, she gave birth to male
twins ......The queen or ganizes the city ethnically into quarters, and in the
centre she places the ment born from the footprints of elephants,
rhinoceroses and (Wild)' buffaloes.
******** ********* **********
The first Haripunjaya stops at abouth the eleven the century, a date which I
consider to be that of the inscription found in 1968, and of the exodus to
Thaton.
