I think an effective teacher will have many strategies for the classroom to ensure a successful student. The teacher forms a framework that will work for all classrooms and all subjects. The use of cooperative learning groups, cues and answers, graphic organizers and learning the cultures of all the students will contribute to the success of the classroom. If you are working with a struggling reader the teacher needs to remember the different learning styles (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) you will have to determine what type of learner he/she is and tailor lessons to that style, evaluate the student to determine if it is a learning disability or perhaps a social economic reason the student is having trouble reading. Lesson must have meaningful goals and be measurable. They must also contain the three types of learning styles so that every student has the chance to succeed no matter their learning style. At the beginning of the year the teacher must state and present all the classroom rules, procedures and structures, the teacher must be consistence and fair in this. You as the teacher set the tone for the classroom in the very beginning of the school year, it will be very hard to change the tone in the middle of the year. When working with students with disabilities you must remember you are often the first to notice if there are disabilities and to document everything. These documents will be used to determine if the student needs and 504 or ARD. When working with students that have a 504 or ARD the teacher must provide or do everything that 504 or ARD states needs to be done in order to make that student successful.
