ABSTRACT

The introduction of Internet to humans life had brought us various impacts both
positively and negatively. The problems that Internet brought us include the misuse
of Internet in workplaces, problem of bandwidth management of hosts in the
network and the different pattern of access to the Internet. In order to counter these
problems stated, this project was conducted with the aim to develop a host based
bandwidth usage control system that implements the quality of service technique, a
centralized policy management for the system and to evaluate the effect of the
system developed on the performance of the network.
The methodology used for this project was the waterfall model which
consists

of

information

gathering,

designing,

development,

testing

and

documentation. The development phase also split into client and server parts. To
evaluate the effect of the developed system, a functionality test was conducted which
monitor network performance parameters such as bandwidth, latency and throughput
both before and after the developed system was being deployed.
