Assessment

Task Procedures:
1. Call all the pupils to the front of the class. Children, come here (point near you).
2. Conduct a shared reading session s follows :
a. Show the power point slides one by one. (Refer to the power point appendix
6.3.1)
Look at the screen. (Point to the screen)
b. Ask pupils :
i. What do you see in the picture?
ii. Have you ever been to a beach before? Where did you go?
iii. What did you see there? What did you do there?
c. Then, read the words and phrases with expressions using the correct stress and
intonation.
3. Repeat the steps for all the slides. Ask any questions that are relevant to the pictures
and revise the keywords for all the slides.
4. Picnic Pair Activity (Old Maid Game)
a. Divide pupils into groups of 4 to 5 pupils by drawing lots.
b. Each group will be given a set of pictures and word cards. (Refer appendix 6.3.2
)
c. Deal all the cards out equally to all group members, face down. (Pupils are not
allowed to touch or look at them.)
d. Pupils look at their cards personally and find any matching pair available, shout
PICNIC and put it in the middle.
e. Pupil take turns taking one card from their members in clockwise.
f. If they have a matching pair of picture and word card, shout PICNIC and place
the pairing cards in the middle.
g. Continue until all the cards got their matches. The first pupil to finish her cards
is the winner while the last one with the picture of beach in hand loses.
5. Points to ponder for the game :
a. Deal the cards.
b. Face down.
c. Take turns.
d. Pick a card clockwise.

e. Match it.
f. Shout Picnic.
g. Put the pair cards in the middle.

Classroom Management :
Use gestures to ask the pupils to sit silently.
Get the pupils to read in small groups.
Group the pupils randomly by drawing lots with colourful chalks.
Assign group to each table.
Give short and clear instructions.
Monitor the activity by walking around group by group.
Managing errors and mistakes :
If pupils mispronounce the words and phrases ask them to stop. Get a high-proficiency
pupil to read aloud the words and phrases before getting the rest to follow.
Acknowledge the correct pronunciation by praising them.
Reward System
Pupil who finishes first will get a sticker and sweets.
All the pupils later will be given sweets as well.
