Networkinghasenabledtheemergenceofmobileandcloudcomputing,
creatingthemostimportanttechnologicalparadigmshiftincomputingofthe
pastdecade.Furtheradvancementsinnetworkingareexpectedtosimilarly
transformthetechnologicallandscapeoverthenextdecadethroughthe
emergenceoftheInternetofThingsandgigabitwirelessnetworks.
Inordertoplayaroleinthiseraofnewnetworkpoweredadvancements,
studentsmusthaveathoroughunderstandingofemergingnetworkingtopics.
Ratherthanteachingthebasicnetworkingprotocols,whichhavebecomevery
matureandcanbetreatedasablackbox,inCS143,wewillteachthenew
issuesandtopicsofinterestwhichwillpowerimportantemergingapplications.
ThisfocusonupcomingapplicationsisthemotivationforCS143this
semester.

6.NetworkSecurity:DefenseAgainstProtocolExploitation
7.WirelessNetworking:WirelessMesh,GeographicRouting
8.MachineLearningAssistedNetworking:EndtoendApplicationAdaptive
Protocols
9.CyberphysicalNetworks:VehicularNetworking
Studentswillhavetheopportunitytoimplementtheconceptslearnedinthe
coursethroughprogrammingassignments,readanddiscussthelatest
networkingliterature,anddesignandimplementafinalproject.
Prerequisites:Stronginterestinthesubjectmatterandprogramming
experience(CS50shouldbefine).Labsessionswillbeprovidedtogiveextra
support.
