Lesson:

Title: Nook Nonfiction Text Features


Subject: Nonfiction Reading
Purpose: To recognize different nonfiction text features using the Barnes and
Noble Nook devices.
Activity Description: Students will look through a piece of nonfiction text on
their Nooks, and write down as many nonfiction text features as they can find,
and then write a description for the purpose of each text feature.
Instructional Objectives/Outcomes: Students will be able to recognize multiple
nonfiction text features and be able to give a description of those text features.
Length of time: one hour
Grouping: Students will work with a partner to identify the different nonfiction text
features on their Nook device.
State or NETS Standards:
CA 2, 1.5, 2.4, 1.6
CA 3, 1.5, 1.6, 2.4, 3.5
Software needed: Class set of Nook E-Readers with different choices of
nonfiction text.
Websites: No websites needed
Assessment (with assessment rubrics): Students will be assessed on the
number of nonfiction text features found and their description of each text
feature. They will be given one point for each nonfiction text feature identified,
and two points for giving a detailed description, written in complete sentences, of
each nonfiction text feature.
