Introduction

V2V communication platform via adhoc netwrok

how much time, on average, do we spend in car?
Americans spend around 26-28days a year in cars.
how about Indians ?
more than 1100 hours in their cars in year
That's around 45-48 days a year.

The idea/concept
vehicle to vehicle communication system(V2V) are an emerging type of network
in which vehicles use a dynamic wireless exchange of data between nearby
vehicles providing each other with information, such as safety warning and traffic
information.
Motivation

Time spent in cars

extend driving vision
communication is development
no infrastructure

INTRODUCTION OF VANET
Vehicle connected to each others through an ad hoc formation form a wireless
network called "Vehicular Ad Hoc Network".
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks(VANETs) are a subgroup of mobile ad hoc
networks(MANETs)
It include V2V communication and V2R communication and is important
component of ITS.

Nodes are expected to communicate by means of North American DSRC standard

that employs the IEEE 802.11p standard for wireless communication.
WHY VANET
Increase traveler safety

20-50million vehicle crashes

1.3million fatalities
costs more than $65billion per year

Boost on-board luxury

CHARACTERISTICS OF VANET

high mobility of nodes

rapidly changing network topology(predictable to some extent)
unbound network size
potential support from infrastructure
real-Time, Time-Sensitive data exchange
Crucial effect of security and privacy

SECURITY IN VANET
when data is compromised, the whole system suffers
The nature of VANETs could lead to malicious attacks.

predictable movement of nodes

high mobility of victim/attacker

Adversaries could break the system

data sinkholes
feed false information
sybil attacks
flood the system

Se
security measures must be taken to avoid malicious attacks on the system.
