Reflection

I started Educational Technology on July 17, 2016. I was not anticipating this course
because of how other colleagues described the course. However, after completing the course, I
must say that it was a lot of work but it was worth it. I will now go back to the drawing board to
ensure that I get it right. I have learnt so much from this course. Firstly, I have learnt that the
students that I now teach are called Digital Natives. They are students who were born or
brought up during the age of digital technology so they are familiar with computers and the
internet from an early age. Therefore, I have a mandate to cater to the needs of these digital
natives through technology integration. Secondly, I have learnt that technology is about creating
instructional environments that can facilitate active engagement, meet the specific and varying
learning needs of the students and providing students with authentic learning environments.. In
addition, there is a wide availability of new and emerging technology tools that can assist teacher
me in making teaching much easier and much more fun.
Finally, I have learnt that technology is not limited to the computers and the projectors,
but there are many technological tools and resources that can be used to make the teaching and
learning process effective. These resources include: computers, digital cameras, online games,
Power Point, CD-ROMs, software applications, the Internet, Smart Board, Pod Cast, Web Quest
and Digital Story. Also, if I dont use these tools or resources appropriately then teaching and
learning would fail. For that reason, the technology should accessible and readily available for
the task at hand. Moreover, the technology tools must support the curricular goals and help the
students to effectively reach their goals. This kind of technology integration is needed in my
classroom because the technology skills and knowledge that students gain in the classroom will
create a foundation for the technology skills and knowledge they will need in the future.
