Activity: Survey teachers on improving professional development and assess importance of PD
on teacher evaluation.

Artifact: Survey on Professional Development
Description: I wrote and distributed a survey on professional development and what teachers
believe would improve the effectiveness of this PD. I then wrote down some of my
considerations regarding the importance of PD in teacher evaluation.
Reflection: About 60% of the teachers surveyed felt that PD at our school has been useful. The
other 40% believes its occasionally useful, but too often is a waste of time. I am in the group
that believes its mostly irrelevant. Still, with a little more than half finding it valuable,
something is working. Regardless, theres room for improvement, and although some trainings
are state-mandated, we could do better at finding better PD for the teachers. By being involved
in what trainings they get, an improved culture of positivity may result. Currently, this is just
one area in which negativity seems to play a large role in the thoughts of teachers, and improving
each part of the school will help to contribute to a better environment overall.
