Hello and welcome

Today I have a really nice topic for you

Id like to talk about 5 things

,
5 misconceptions that people have about Dubai

,
First of all, I hope that this videos audio quality is clear enough since
Im using a new camera

,
Well, its not really new; I just never used it before.

.
And theres also like a party outside, or some sort of carnival, or
something. I dont know.

So why did I choose to talk about this and make a video on it?

,) 20( , () ,

First of all, as you may or may not know, I was born in Dubai and Ive
lived there for 20 years. I then moved here to Germany

-

I chose these 5 depending on what Ive heard here or what people
said to me after telling them that I was living in Dubai

, ,
,
These 5 are not the only misconceptions they had, but rather the
most recurring ones; the things they repeated the most and that I
heard them say

, :
#1: Dubai is not the country, its the city

That was the first thing they used to say after mentioning that I came
from there

: , :
The country is called: the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

,
And Dubai is just one of its cities, or one of its Emirates

, ,
It has 7 Emirates, which are, in the order of their popularity

, , , , , :
Youve got Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, and
Fujairah

Wait, that only makes six

... , , , , ,
Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah

.
Umm Al-Qaiwain! And Umm Al-Qaiwain

, :

The second misconception: No, people in Dubai dont ride camels to
get from one place to another

And you wont believe just how many times Ive heard that

There are really a lot of people who think that we live in a desert and
that we get around on camels

, .

The truth is: no. Just like every other normal country in the world, we
get around by car, bus, or train.

,
Ive lived there for 20 years and the times I saw a camel can be
counted on two hands

, ,
,
The third one, which might just be the one that annoys me the most,
is that everyone thinks that everyone living in Dubai is minted, Filthy
rich

, ,
Its false. Very false. Were just like any other country

, , , ,
Theres the rich, the average, the poor, the very poor, and also the
very rich

I went to the barber here and he started asking where Im from

,
So I told him that I was a Jordanian expat in Dubai and the first thing
that he said was that people there are loaded

.
So the idea is out there. There are some people who have this idea.

The fourth one is that you have to be fluent in Arabic or know Arabic
in order to survive there

This one is also false since the number of English speakers (counting
natives & non-native speakers) there is way more than the number of
Arabic speakers

And the number of Arabs is anyways very small relative to the
number of foreigners

And there are a lot of people whove lived half their lives or more
there without even knowing how to say hello

Those living there dont even need to know how to say hello in order
to manage/get around and live there

.
Now Im only talking about Dubai. I dont know how its like in the
other cities.

,
But depending on the school you choose and so, everything is in
English

,
The people youre going to come in contact with in malls, or
wherever you go to buy things and deal with people

They all either dont speak Arabic in the first place or they all speak
English

.
And the same goes for universities. All universities teach in English.

So the idea that you need to know Arabic in order to survive there is
false

The fifth and last one is that the weather there is completely
unbearable, and that its boiling hot

And that you cant step outside without going back in dripping with
sweat

. ,
Thats partially true. It really depends on the time of year.

) 10( ) 4( ,

For example, between the months of April and October the weather
truly is unbearable

,)50( ...
.)55(
Temperatures may reach....last year I recall them reaching 50 to 55
degrees (Celsius) during the summer
,
Totally normal

,) 4( ) 11(

On the other hand, between the months of November and April the
weather is just amazing. Temperatures can reach as low as 16 or 10
degrees (Celsius)

,
Maybe even lower at night, and the weather is just amazing during
those particular months

, .
So, thats all for this video. I just wanted to make a short video about
this

Because after coming here (Germany) and hearing how people talk
about these things

And the misconceptions they have

,

And its a good opportunity (for you) to hear some Arabic and
improve your Arabic at the same time, all while learning a thing or
two about Dubai

,
And if one of you had one of these misconceptions about Dubai, let
me know in the comments below

I really like reading these things

,

And also let me know what other misconceptions you had about
Dubai, itd be nice seeing the different impressions that people from
other countries have

So dont forget to let me know if the audio is clear enough and if you
can hear me just fine

And if you liked this video, please leave a comment below, and
if you didnt like this video, Id still like for you to leave a comment
below

,
As I said before, I enjoy reading your opinions

Thank you for watching and Ill see you in the next videos
