Its been a while since I made a video explaining the meanings of

certain words and expressions

So, today I want to explain to you the different meanings of the word
tired (Its literal meaning is tired)

As you know, this word normally means that you dont have the
energy to do anything

Like you want to sleep or something

Like if I say that Im tired, it means that I dont have the energy to
do something and that Im about to shut down


But the word tired can be used differently and mean something
else

:

For example, you might hear someone say: this car is tired, this
phone is tired, this device is tired, or this computer is tired

Or in similar contexts

Or you might even hear someone say: that guy is tired (not
physically), or hear someone say to someone else: youre tired

In school or college someone might say: that teacher is tired or that
professor is tired

Someone can also say: his explanation is tired, the way he plays is
tired (a football player or someones performance in a game), his
work is tired



Tired here means that that person or that thing is not good/fit/of
good quality, as in it doesnt work well or he cant perform his job
well or adequately

Or in a way such that its beneficial to others

Like if I say this phone is tired, itd mean that it doesnt function
well or that it doesnt meet our expectations for a phone of this day
and age

For example, if a company releases a phone in 2016 that has a tired
touch screen (in this context itd mean that the touch screen has
poor detection, precision, or is sometimes unresponsive), meaning
that the touch screen isnt working well

Or that, for example, compared to this day and age it has outdated
functions, simply doesnt work, or is defective

Ill explain the word defective/faulty in a different video since it

We can say: this phone is tired

If were talking about a university professor or a school teachers
teaching skills and say that theyre tired, or that they are tired as
individuals, it means that they cant teach

They dont know how to get a point across to their students, or they
are simply bad teachers (skills wise, not personality wise)

I should also mention that if you say that a device or anything
electronic, or even a person, that its tired, that doesnt mean that
its broken or that it doesnt work at all

That is, broken. tired does not mean broken

It means that its functioning, but just not as well and doesnt do its
job as it should

For example, if we say that a car is tired, that doesnt mean that
the car doesnt run. On the contrary, the car does run, but it just
doesnt run so well

For example, a tired car would have non-working air conditioning,
it might consume more fuel than back when it was brand new

The radiator might have defective parts

The idea is that whatever were talking about still works/functions,
just not that well

A tired university professor or school teacher still tries to do their
job, they try to teach/explain stuff, but their explanations arent good
and dont help/arent helpful

If you hear someone say you are a tired human being to someone
else, here it would mean that that person

Might be some kind of a moron, acts/behaves oddly, slow, kind of
stupid, or anything like that

It has a comical component to it and youd almost always hear it only
among friends

So its a very simple word and its explanation is very short
