In May 2015, A Zero was taking over the activities of Badgeman, a renowned Belgian company in the
badges area while also rehiring its employees in order to benefit from their expertise and ensure the
continuity of its product making.
The reunion of our respective know-how permitted us to improve many of our products and elaborate
new ones.
Today, A Zero Badgeman is the Belgian market leader in the area of badges and event
documentation.
We are counting thousands of customers, SMEs, large companies, institutions, etc. across many
European countries.
A Zero Badgeman presents itself as:

Specialist in event documentation;
Specialist in badge making.
This designation as craftsman-printer emphasize our ability to realize extremely diverse products
(documents), highly personalized, tailor-made and of high quality.
This ability arose from a 25 years experience in 3 areas:
The digital printing in small and large formats

The digital cutting
The personalization (VDP Variable Data Printing)
We are also able to:

As you have understood, our cup of tea is event documentation but who can do more can do less
and we also produce classic printed jobs, business cards, city documents, booklets, catalogues,

WHAT DO WE DO?
We are producing event documentation but what is that?
This category includes any document helping the organization and the smooth progress of an event
by answering one of those questions: WHO? WHEN? WHERE?
We are thus at the service of event planners and bring them:
Numerous and diverse products fulfilling precise needs;

Innovative, creative and efficient products;
A professional attendance permitting them to organize and plan an event without having to
care about production issues.
Less stress and more comfort!
Our customers let us know that their events are now better organized and undergo less pressure, that
the attendees feel satisfied and considered and that the brand image of the organizer gets improved.

HOW DO WE DO IT?
Schematically, our job can be broken down into two steps; the developing of files on the one hand,
and their reproduction on hard bases on the other.
In the event management area, the specificity in the realization of files is personalization. The higher
the personalization of a document, the higher its efficiency.
A badge including the name of the attendee, its business card in QR code format, a color code
identifying the belonging to a certain category and the participant specific agenda is an excessively
effective organizational tool.
Throughout the designing phase, we are using the Adobe program: In Design.
The personalization is conducted using a very efficient VDP program (Variable Data Printing) wellintegrated to In Design.
Combined, those programs are extremely powerful and permit us to achieve complex personalization
and to realize very efficient documents.
We can switch from mail merge in Word format to sharp communication.

When it comes to reproduction on solid bases, we are using the most modern and various methods:
Several printers designed to produce badges fulfilling specific needs;

Small and large format color printer, with white ink for colored or transparent bases, with
overprint varnishes and lacquers, in order to print on any materials such as papers,
cardboards, woods, plastics, Plexiglas, metals, textiles,
Fast and precise, digital cutting/carving machines using blades, mils or lasers.
In terms of product line, the possible combinations are infinite and limited only by our respective
imaginations.

Many standards products are available in stock and can therefore be very rapidly supplied if

VDP, or Variable Data Printing, is the modern and much more efficient version of the wellknown mail merge of text treatment. Many factors contribute to this performance

At Badgeman, we are using a powerful Adobe program of page layout: In Design, along with a plug-in
dedicated to VDP! This combination permits us to elaborate complex layouts with a very precise
control over colors, fonts, images etc.
We are switching from a simple bureaucratic level to the communication level!
The merging capabilities are sharply improved
From the data extracted from a database, it is possible to carry out calculus to create new data;
execute conditional actions with effects on the layout, etc.
A few examples:
If an attendee belongs to the group A or B or C, a green, blue or red background can be
set,
Ensuring the readability of texts (positive or negative) according to the background used,
If the participant is Belgian, French or English, positioning a Belgian, French or English flag
on the chosen spot,
Generating a QR Code with the website address, placing it on the designated spot and
coloring it in green, red or yellow according to the belonging of this or that department,
Automatically inserting the attendee picture,
Etc.

An extraordinary tool: copy-fitting

The characteristic of merging is to juggle with variable data of variable length.
Who hasnt been confronted to too long names which then get truncated and nobody will
appreciate to see his name a few letters short! This requires a careful, time-consuming check of the
merging result.
Copy-fitting will solve this issue by automatically reducing the font size of the too long texts in order
to make them fit definite zone.
The software also enables you to control the longest and the shortest lengths to double check
that the extreme values are still acceptable for layout and readability.
Some CASE STUDIES:

Identification badges for ING banking agents
We produced +/- 3.500 badges for the ING
banking agents. The basic layout had to answer
to very precise specifications in terms of font and
alignment.
Copy-fitting, calibrated with precision, allowed
us to avoid a full check of the personalized files
and thus many hours of work, while reducing the
risk of an error.
Badges an event with TOTAL

Total was organizing an event for which each
participant had registered to 4 among 32
workshops.
Total had several imperatives besides simple
persons identification:
Managing groups,
Supplying at any time a list of the 4
workshops a participant had to attend,
along with the related times and
locations,
Proposing a badge which would be event-specific, by creating a layout designed for this
particular event.
The groups were handled tanks to color codes and we chose a hanging square-shaped badge and a
two-sided printing. Non-standard dimensions were used in order to fit the specific program of the
attendee at the back of the badge.
In this case, BOTH sides of the badge were personalized.
This badge was a simple and very efficient way to answer a complex challenge.

G. CASE STUDIES
The European Union
They were organizing a seminar hosting several
official personalities such as ambassadors.
Safety was therefore of first importance and
visual identification had to be fast and certain.
Moreover, according to the belonging to such or
such group, attendees had access to a place or
not. Group identification was thus primordial as
well.
Dior
Dior was organizing a journey during which the
participants were moving regularly from a location to
another, creating a strong and continuous flux of
luggage.
In order to avoid any loss or forgetting, the idea was to
register, thanks to a barcode, every luggage at the
beginning of the tour and to scan them every time they
had to move.
This procedure permitted to consistently identify the
owner of a missing luggage and ask him to retrieve it.
Belfius
Belfius wanted to give a small group (around 30 persons)
of travelers a luggage tag that would have a novel look
while still being affordable.
Our answer was a Plexiglas (3mm thick) badge, color
printed (with white print on the inside) and (laser) cut
according to the shape of the logo.

Belgian Government
For this seminar, the Belgian government
wanted a badge able to handle groups
while carrying extensive information
under PDF format.
The solution was to transform a USB
drive/credit card into a hanging badge.
Thanks to personalization, the drive/card
could be digitally printed.
The management of groups was done
through a classic color code.

Belfius 2
Belfius was organizing a few days trip during which the
attendees, French- and Dutch-speaking, were taking part to
several activities (sportive and tours) for which they were
pre-registered. Besides, the importance of groups required
the use of different planes.
We realized a nominative program in the form of a passport
In the language of the attendee
Indicating its flights, back and forth
His specific sports activities and visits

All in all, we had more than 80 distinct combinations. After
adjusting our Variable Data Printing tool, we were able to
automatically produce the personalized files.
