Life on the Farm

Topic: Farm (Science)


Lesson Title: Animal babies on the farm
Grade Level: K
Lesson Objectives:
Be able to identify different farm animals
Be able to match farm animal babies to their parents
Be able to recognize more specific gender terminology for farm animals
Lesson Procedures:
1. Prepare ten cards with the names and pictures of the following
animals that might be found on the farm. (Cow, Duck, Dog, Goat,
Horse, Lamb, Goose) On the back of each card write the name of that
animals baby and the sound the animal makes.
2. Introduce the animals on the cards to the class as a whole.
3. Make a tick-tack-toe pattern on the floor out of masking tape. Or use
chalk board if desired.
4. Divide the class into two groups An X group and an O group.
5. The teacher calls the name of a parent animal to both teams.
6. The students must correctly name the offspring that corresponds with
the teachers animal. (This will be done individually and in turns)
7. If the student answers correctly, he/she takes a place in a box on the
board.
8. The first team to make a line of three wins.
9. The team that wins makes all of their animal noises at once.
10.Games continue until all students have the chance to go.
Lesson Summary:
*Introduce the children to more specific gender terminology for farm
animals.
*Have student make flash cards using pictures of the animals and the gender
term.
*Once students have made their own flash cards they can practice with a
partner.

Materials:
8x10 Cardstock, Crayons, Magazines, Newspapers, glue, scissors, masking
tape, signs identifying X and O.
