Hello, my name is Barbara Harley-Bishop. I love interior design because its always been a
hobby of mine to decorate, organize and design without me realizing it! It really brings out my
creativity. Im very passionate about school and continuing my education for as long as I can. I
have lived in a few different states and cities and in almost every place I have been to, I have
paid attention to the details around me. I have always made any space I was in, my own. My
career goals have changed since my last journal, I would love to work towards receiving my
bachelors of interior design and my minor would be graphic design.
The last four courses Ive taken are Residential Design- Kitchen and Bath, Space Planning,
History of Architecture, Interiors & Furniture II, and CAD I. I learned so much in all of my past
classes and I had such great teachers to work with. The hardest class Ive taken so far is
probably CAD I. The reason that class was the most difficult to me is because drafting digitally is
something I wasnt used to and It took some time to somewhat perfect the art of drafting just
by hand, so doing it using the AutoCAD software was much more challenging. By the end of the
class I definitely had a much better understanding of it.
These skills I have learned in my last four classes will really help me reach my goal in the future
of becoming an architect/ interior designer. In Residential Design- Kitchen and Bath, we focused
more on designing the kitchen and bathrooms based off the client and their needs and wants.
Space Planning was one of my favorite classes because we were able to design a whole barn
based off the little things the client required. We designed based on their hobbies, height,
needs, wants etc. I had so much fun learning in that class. The History of Architecture, Interiors
& Furniture II was also another one of my favorite classes because I love history. I learned so
many interesting things about different eras of design.
I have not attended any student seminars or workshops but I plan to go soon! All the seminars
I will attend will be ones that interest me about my career and school!
