ART Parodies

Grant Woods American Gothic or Leonardo DaVincis Mona Lisa

Project Objectives:

T.S.W. develop skills in tempera painting including value and color mixing.
T.S.W. be able to identify characteristics of art by famous artists such as
Grant Wood and Leonardo DaVinci.
T.S.W. demonstrate their knowledge of the term parody and how to
incorporate it into an original work of art.

Procedures:
1. Select a painting (Mona Lisa or American Gothic) and create a parody of
the painting (4 thumbnail sketches).
2. Rough draft with color.
3. Create FINAL painting with acrylics. Incorporate color mixing techniques
and value into painting to achieve aspects of realism.

Grading Criteria:

Students should use the same basic composition as the original artwork
but replace and/or add to the piece.
Additions can be real, fictional, or completely from the students
imagination.
Use correct value and color mixing techniques.
