Undesirable Behavior Targeted: Lack of participation: Throughout the class lesson students are talking, roaming around
the room and doing things other than classwork such as doodling. This interferes with learning because students are not
obtaining the information and knowledge.
Desirable (expected) Behavior Targeted: Actively Participate
1.Sit in your seat before the bell rings 2. Notebook and pen on desk, ready for notes 3. Remain in seat until
directed to move 4. Raise hand to ask questions or engaged in the discussion 5. Quietly listen to the speaker
Types of positive reinforcements - Reinforced when & how?
1. Immediate R+ - For every student who is actively participating, they will receive an ice cream cut out.
2. Ongoing R+- At the end of every class the students will place their ice cream on the cone that has their class period on it.
3. Overall R+ - Students will be working to complete a whole ice cream cone as a class.
4. I will monitor the students as they enter my classroom and their participation throughout the lesson. Throughout the
discussions I will place an ice cream cone on their desks whenever I see they are interacting and participating in the
lecture. At the end of class, I will call on the students to place the ice cream scoop on top of the cone.
Interactive Learning Activity:
4.8b. Geometry and Measurement Convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric from a
smaller unit into a larger unit or larger unit into smaller unit when given other equivalent measures
4.8c. Geometry and Measurement Solve problems that deal with measurements of length, intervals of time, liquid volumes,
mass and money using addition, subtraction, multiplication or division as appropriate.
-Once the students earn all of the ice cream scoops to reach the ceiling, the class will demonstrate their understanding of
the unit by measuring the height of the ice cream scoop and converting it to larger and smaller units. We will then get ice
cream in different forms to weigh in ounces, grams, pounds and convert in a hands on activity.
Teach the Desired Behaviors:
I will demonstrate the desired behaviors on the first day of teaching these behaviors, I will ask the class to individually
write down what they think these behaviors would look like and then we will make make a class list. After discussing
what the desired behaviors look like, they will earn an ice cream scoop cutout.
Teach the Plan:
Each day before the students leave for the day, I will demonstrate what behaviors are to be expected when they arrive back to
the classroom the following day, I will also remind them that they are working to complete the ice cream as a class, it will
take more than just one person to do the behaviors. When the desired behavior is portrayed until the end of the period, I will
explain to the class that they have earned the ice cream scoop! When they complete the ice cream cone, from floor to ceiling,
we will then have a real ice cream to place on a scale and convert their measurements as well as compare to other sizes.
Provide options: Types of ice cream 1pint, 1.5 quart, .5 gallons, blue bell half gallon, breyers half gallon
Demonstrate all Necessary Items
1. Ice cream scoop
2. Napkins

3. Bowls

4. Triple beam balance
