PRECAUTIONS
1.Donotcollimatetheobjectivelensdirecttosunlightwithoutafilter.
2.Donotstoretheinstrumentinhighandlowtemperaturetoavoidthesuddenor
greatchangeoftemperature.
3.Whentheinstrumentisnotinuse,placeitinthecaseandavoidshock,dustand
humidity.
4.Ifthereisgreatdifferencebetweenthetemperatureinworksiteandthatinstore
place,youshouldleavetheinstrumentinthecasetillitadaptstothetemperatureof
environment.
5.Iftheinstrumenthasnotbeenusedforalongtime,youshouldremovethebattery
forseparatestorage.Thebatteryshouldbechargedonceamonth.
6. When transporting the instrument should be placed in its carrying case, it is
recommendedthatcushionedmaterialshouldbeusedaroundthecaseforsupport.
7. For less vibration and better accuracy, the instrument should be set up on a
woodentripodratherthananaluminumtripod.
8.Cleanexposedopticalpartswithdegreasedcottonorlenstissueonly!
9. Clean the instrument surface with a woolen cloth after use. If it gets wet, dry it
immediately.
10.Beforeworking,inspectthepower,functionsandindicationsoftheinstrumentas
wellasitsinitialsettingsandcorrectionparameters.
11. Unless the user is a maintenance specialist, do not attempt to disassemble the

ForinfraredlaserEDM(visiblelaser)
Warning:
ThetotalstationisequippedwithanEDMofalasergradeof3R/a.Itisverifiedby
thefollowinglabels.
OvertheverticaltangentscrewsticksanindicationlabelCLASSIIILASERPRODUCT.
Asimilarlabelisstickedontheoppositeside.
This product is classified as Class 3R laser product, which accords to the following
standards.
IEC608251:2001SAFETYOFLASERPRODUCTS.
Class 3R/ a laser product: It is harmful to observe laser beam continuously. User
shouldavoidsightingthelaserattheeyes.Itcanreach5timestheemittinglimitof
Class2/IIwithawavelengthof400mm700mm.
Warning:
Continuouslylookingstraightatthelaserbeamisharmful.
Prevention:
Donotstareatthelaserbeam,orpointthelaserbeamtootherseyes.Reflectedlaser
beamisavalidmeasurementtotheinstrument.
Warning:
When the laser beam emits on prism, mirror, metal surface, window, etc., it is
dangeroustolookstraightatthereflex.
Prevention:
Donotstareattheobjectwhichreflectsthelaserbeam.Whenthelaserisswitched
on (under EDM mode), do not look at it on the optical path or near the prism. It is
onlyallowedtoobservetheprismwiththetelescopeoftotalstation.

2. SYNCHRONIZATION WITH PC
2.1 INSTALLATION MICROSOFT ACTIVESYNC
There is a CD of Microsoft ActiveSync attached in the product package. First,
install Microsoft ActiveSync on the personal computer and communicate with PDA.

Duringtheinstallationprocessing,rebootyourcomputerisrequired.Therefore,
pleasesaveyourjobsandquitalltheapplicationsbeforeinstallation.
To install Microsoft ActiveSync, you are supposed to have an USB cable
(availableintheproductpackage)connectthePDAwiththepersonalcomputer.

MicrosoftActiveSyncInstallationGuidewillberunautomatically.Ifitisnotrun,
doubleclickonthesetup.exeundertherootmenuinthediskdrive.

AfterthesynchronizedbetweenthetotalstationandthePC,clickBrowsebuttonto
browsealthecontentsintheportabledevice(totalstation),asbelow.

Put the instrument carefully on the tripod head and slide the instrument by
looseningthetripodheadscrew.Iftheplumbbobispositionedrightoverthecenter
ofthepoint,slightlytightenthetripodheadscrew.
3)Roughlylevelingtheinstrumentbyusingthecircularvialbubble.
Turn the leveling screw A and B to move the bubble in the circular vial, in
whichcasethebubbleislocatedonalineperpendiculartoalinerunningthroughthe
centersofthetwolevelingscrewbeingadjusted.
TurnthelevelingscrewCtomovethebubbletothecenterofthecircularvial.
4)Preciselylevelingbyusingtheplatevial
RotatetheinstrumenthorizontallybylooseningtheHorizontalClampScrew
and place the plate vial parallel to the line connecting leveling screw A and B, and
thenbringthebubbletothecenteroftheplatevialbyturningthelevelingscrewsA
andB.
Rotate the instrument 90 (100g) around its vertical axis and turn the
remaininglevelingscreworlevelingCtocenterthebubbleoncemore.

Repeat the steps for each 90 (100g) rotation of the instrument and
checkwhetherthebubbleiscorrectlycenteredinalldirections.
2Centeringbyusingtheopticalplummet
1)Settripod
Setuptripodtosuitableheight,ensureequallengthofthreelegs,spreadand
make tripod head parallel to the ground, and place itrightabove the measurement
stationpoint.Propuptripodonthegroundandfixoneleg.
2)Installinstrumentandcollimatethepoint
Setinstrumentcarefullyontripod,tightenthecentralconnectingscrewand
adjustopticalplummettomakethereticledistinctly.Holdtheothertwounfixedlegs
withbothhandsandadjustpositionofthesetwolegsthroughobservationofoptical
plummet.Asitapproximatelyaimsatthestationpoint,makeallthreelegsfixedon
the ground. Adjust three leg screws of the instrument to make optical plummet
collimatepreciselytothestationpoint.
3)Usecircularvialtoroughlyleveltheinstrument.
Adjust length of three legs of tripod; make the circular vial bubble of the
instrumentinthemiddle.
4)Useplatevialtoleveltheinstrumentaccurately.
Rotate the instrument horizontally by loosening the Horizontal Clamp Screw
and place the plate vial parallel to the line connecting leveling screw A and B, and
thenbringthebubbletothecenteroftheplatevialbyturningthelevelingscrewsA
andB.
Rotate the instrument 90, make it perpendicular to the connecting line of
levelscrewsAandB.TurnlevelscrewCtomakethebubbleoftheplatevialinthe
middle.
5) Preciselycenteringandleveling
Through observation of optical plummet, slightly loosen the central
connecting screw and move the instrument evenly (Dont rotate the instrument),
making the instrument precisely collimating to the station point. Then tighten the
centralconnectingscrewandleveltheinstrumentpreciselyagain.

Notice:
the battery operating time will vary depending on the environmental
conditions such as ambient temperature, charging time, the number of times of
charging and discharging etc. It is recommended for safety to charge the battery
beforehandortopreparesparefullchargedbatteries.
the battery power remaining display shows the power level regarding the
current measurement mode. The distance measurement mode consumes more
powerthananglemeasurementmode,sothepowerenoughforthelatterisnotsure
applicableforthepreviousone.Payparticularattentiontothiswhenswitchingangle
measurement mode to distance measurement mode, because insufficient battery
powermightleadtointerruptedoperation.
beforeoutdooroperation,batterypowerstatusshouldbewellchecked.
When the measurement mode is changed, the battery power would not
immediately show the decrease or increase. The battery power indicating system
showsthegeneralstatusbutnottheinstantaneouschangeofbatterypower.
BatteryRechargingCautions:
Battery should be recharged only with the charger SC21 going with the
instrument.
Removetheonboardbatteryfrominstrumentandconnectittobatterycharger.
Whentheindicatorlamponthebatterychargerisorange,therechargingprocesshas

begun. When charging is complete (indicator lamp turns green), disconnect the
chargerfromitspowersource.
BatteryRemovalCautions
Before removing the battery fromthe instrument, make sure that the power is
turnedoff.Otherwise,theinstrumentmaybedamaged.
BatteryRechargingCautions
Thechargerhasbuiltincircuitryforprotectionfromovercharging.However,do
notleavethechargerpluggedintothepoweroutletafterrechargingiscompleted.
Besuretorechargethebatteryatatemperatureof045C,rechargingmay
beabnormalbeyondthespecifiedtemperaturerange.
Whentheindicatorlampdoesnotlightafterconnectingthebatteryandcharger,
eitherthebatteryorthechargermaybedamaged.Pleaseconnectprofessionalsfor
repairing.
BatteryChargingCautions
Rechargeable battery can be repeatedly recharged 300 to 500 times. Complete
dischargeofthebatterymayshortenitsservicelife.
Inorderto getthemaximumservicelife,besuretorechargeitatleastoncea
month.
Dismounting
Ifnecessary,theinstrument(includingreflectorprismswiththesametribrach)canbe
dismountedfromtribrach.Loosenthetribrachlockingscrewinthelockingknobwith
a screwdriver. Turn the locking knob about 180 counterclockwise to disengage
anchorjaws,andtakeofftheinstrumentfromtribrach.
Mounting
Insertthreeanchorjawsintoholesintribrachandlineupthedirectingstubwiththe
directing slot. Turn the locking knob about 180clockwise and tighten the locking
screwwithascrewdriver.
if there is parallax when your eye moves up, down or left, right, it means the diopter of
eyepiece lens or focus is not well adjusted and accuracy will be influenced, so you should adjust

Avoid interrupting the measuring beam while taking reflectorless measurements
ormeasurementsusingreflectivefoils.
ReflectorlessEDM
Ensure that the laser beams cannot be reflected by any object nearby with
highreflectivity.
Whenadistancemeasurementistriggered,theEDMmeasurestotheobject
whichisinthebeampathatthatmoment.Incaseoftemporaryobstruction(e.g.a
passing vehicle, heavy rain, snow, frog, etc.), the EDM may measure to the
obstruction.
Whenmeasuringlongerdistance,anydivergenceoftheredlaserbeamfrom
thelineofsightmightleadtolessaccuratemeasurements.Thisisbecausethelaser
beam might not be reflected from the point at which the crosshairs are pointing.
Therefore, it is recommended to verify that the Rlaser is well collimated with the
telescopelineofsight.(Pleasereferto****REFLECTORLESSEDM)
Donotcollimatethesametargetwiththe2totalstationssimultaneously.
Accurate measurements to prisms should be made with the standard program
(infraredmode).
RedLaserDistanceMeasurementCooperatedwithReflectiveFoils.
The visible red laser beam can also be used to measure to reflective foils. To
guaranteetheaccuracytheredlaserbeammustbeperpendiculartothereflectorfoil
anditmustbewelladjusted(referto**** REFLECTORLESSEDM).
Makesuretheadditiveconstantbelongstotheselectedtarget(reflector).
6.2.1 Setting Atmosphere Correction

A radial (forward) offset is along the line of sight, with positive away from the
instrument, and a tangential (right) offset is perpendicular to the line of sight with
positive to the right, as viewed from the instrument. A vertical offset is positive
upwards.
Offsets may be entered manually if measured by tape, or computed by
measuringasecondangletotherequiredpoint.
A tangential offset may be computed by recording a second angle to intersect
withtheperpendicularoffsetfromthecurrentobservation.Thismethodcanbeused
toobtainanapproximatepositionforthecenterofanobject,forexampleatree.Take
ashottothesideoftheobject.Whentheoffsetscreenhasbeenselected,sightthe
