Module 6 Reflection
This week we studied how to properly perform artefact analysis, analyze credible sources
for a paper, and create a research log. The writing that I produced for this class has been more
speculative than usual. I my research log I noted that

In this piece the author said nothing about the shift in peer influence, but I am comfortable
making the assumption that one does exist. Previously, I would have only been confident that
there is a correlation. After practicing reading in between the lines over the last couple of weeks,
I can presume that there is a causality without having data to support my claim. My choice of
topic and writing style is still the same, but I am starting to appreciate the importance of reading
between the lines. The topic that we discussed that was most interesting to me was the different
strategies for finding effective keywords. I have a lot of experience doing research, but I have
always relied on customizable filter settings that are built into the search engine to weed out
unwanted results. I had not considered having a list of synonyms of my keywords readily
available in case I was having trouble finding a good source. However, the assignment that
made the largest impact on me this week is the summary assignment. I had never considered
writing a summary of an article for personal reasons. I always thought that summaries were
written for third parties. In my research summary I wrote that

Normally, I would have just annotated the article that I was reading and called it a day. Having
written a summary, I realize that I had been analyzing research in a very inefficient way up until
now. Just writing that short paragraph has helped me remember what is in that article without
having to look through it at all.
