Sub : 4th Boiler Feed Pump for MCL
The problems and limitations for installation of 4th
1)

Boiler Feed Pump in MCL.

Since dearator is common, the suction line is to be necessarily taken from

a
common
suction header. Accordingly
the discharge line also is to be
connected to the common header.

2)

The steam supply circuit to the dearator has been made such that two boiler
and
two turbine cannot run in a totally unitised manner. Therefore keeping the 4th
pump connected to the common header does not give any added
advantage.
3)

Considering the load fluctuation in the cement plant, it is very often necessary
to
run one turbine with 2 boiler at part load. Taking into view the Feed Heater
arrangement, a common boiler Feed Pump discharge header is technical a
better option.

4)

In case HP heater for one of the turbine is out of service, utilising a common
boiler Feed Pump discharge header will help achieving relatively high Feed
water temparature at the economiser inlet. This helps in keeping low flue gas
temparature corrossion under control.

5)
There is serious space constraint and major modification in the piping and
layout
arrangement is required for installation of the 4th Feed water pump.
6)

Since each pump is capable of meeting the requirement of one boiler,

installation of such 4th pump is not giving any benefit except extended
availability.
Considering that one stand by pump is already available the benefit of
extended
availability can be achieved even by keeping the 4th pump available in the
stores.
