Hi XX,

Im reaching out to gauge your interest in an article on a $2.2 million grant awarded to
Bibo Li, a Cleveland State University (CSU) Professor of Biological Science and member
of CSUs Center for Gene Regulation in Health and Disease (GRHD). The five-year
renewal grant funded by National Institutes of Health (NIH) will help aid further research
in curing Trypanosoma brucei, a parasite causing the fatal sleeping sickness affecting
millions of people globally that remains unsolved.
Dr. Li has extensive knowledge on the special regions of DNA called telomeres and
examines how telomeres affect the deadly parasite T. brucei. In 2009, Dr. Li identified
telomeres could help regulate the parasite from disguising itself as a different cell form,
a disguise that makes it difficult for the immune system to detect as dangerous,
allowing the disease to spread easily. Her findings were a breakthrough in GRHD
research and were published on the cover of the renowned journal Cell.
With her renewed grant, Professor Li hopes to determine a cure that will destroy the
active parasite. She could be the saving grace for those unlucky millions.
Dr. Li is open for an interview to discuss her research and discoveries and to answer any
questions you may have. Please let me know if this topic is of interest to you.

Best,
Annie Ames
