Practice- homework, bellwork, exit slips, self-directed digital content (20%)

Nine Week Assignments

1. Tests are given every two or three weeks.
2. Long-term Projects usually are assigned each quarter and are counted as a test grade. Projects are
graded by a rubric that each student will receive when the project is assigned.
Homework Assignments
Graded homework assignments will be assigned on Monday and due by Friday. Parents, please
check agenda books nightly for assignments. Students will be given time in class to record their
homework assignments in their agenda. Other homework assignments will include vocabulary, current
events, studying for an upcoming quiz or test, review of the days work, or gaining background
knowledge for an upcoming assignment.
Mastery of Concepts and Makeup Work
My goal is to have all of my students master the content and skills required in 6th grade Social Studies.
With that goal in mind, students are allowed test corrections and makeup missing assignments as long as
it is done during the interim period that it is given. Throughout the school year student will have the
opportunity to earn extra credit points which will be added to the 9-weeks grades. The teacher will tell
students when extra-credit assignments are available. Makeup work for absences has the same amount of
days to complete as the amount of days absent. A useful tool is PowerSchools ParentPortal to check a
students grades and assignments. PowerSchool will be updated weekly.
Personalized Digital Learning (PDL)
Again this school year, students in middle school will be participating in the Personalized Digital
Learning (PDL) initiative that will place iPads in the hands of all students. The technological tools will
enable teachers to personalize education in ways not possible before. There is more information about the
initiative on the school districts website at www.horrycountyschools.net.
