President's Message:

Dear Members;
The hot and humid lazy hazy days or Summer are in full swing. I hope you and your families are taking
advantage of the season by vacationing and relaxing. I apologize that this issue of the Cosmoscope is late,
but we have had a change in editors. I would like to thank Matthew DiPaulo for the fine job he did the past
2 years as editor of the Cosmoscope and hope that our new editor, Robert (spuds) Woods can maintain the
high quality newsletter which Matt provided. The Cosmoscope will be issued in September, November,
January, March, and May.
Condolences go out to Bob Sharples on the loss of his father, Robert, in June. Our thoughts and prayers
were with Bob at that difficult time. In lieu of flowers, a donation by the Club was made to Valley
Hospice.
It was great to see fourteen members of the Club and Ladies Auxiliary participate in the Fair Lawn
Memorial Day Parade this year. The Club this year again was involved in the ceremonies after the parade
presenting a wreath at the Avenue of Heroes.
The annual bus trip to Yankee Stadium held on Friday, June 10th went very well as the Yankees won and
the Club realized a profit from the event. Thanks to Joe Montanaro, Frank Marinelli, John Balbi, Ray
Orlando, John Battista, Donna Battista, Joe Marchese and Tony Carriero for the help they provided in
making sandwiches for all who attended the game.
The Annual Radburn Street Fair was held on Sunday, June 12th. Thanks to Chairperson Jim Conroy, the
Cosmos Club had a booth to sell meatball sandwiches and drinks. A big thank you to all the members
who showed up on Saturday, June 11th to make meatballs and sauce. Due to this event, gift cards in the
amount of $500.00 will be donated to the Fair Lawn Food Pantry.
Prior to the June 28th General Meeting thirteen scholarships were awarded to the children and
grandchildren of Cosmos Club members. A big thank you goes out to Frank Marinelli and John Battista
for being the chairpersons for this event.
At the General Meeting on May 24th the Club had elections for officers. Congratulations to officers for the
next 2 years - President, Ed Salvi; Vice-President, Frank Marinelli; Treasurer. Vinny Zafonte; Secretary,
Tim Murray; Club Chairman, Chris Allen; Assistant Club Chairman, Joe Marchese; Sergeant at Arms,
John Battista; Judicial Officer, Ray Orlando; and VFW Liaison, Nick Felice. Thank you to Emilio
Cammallieri and Joe Mazzone who are going off the Board for serving as Treasurer and Asst. Club
Chairman respectfully. I would also like to thank Stu Pace, Chris LaMazza and Rob Wood for their
interest in being elected to the Board.
The Annual Golf Outing chaired by Chris LaMazza is being held on Wednesday, September 14th. The
cost is $140.00 per golfer which includes the day of golf, a voucher for a free round of golf and

lunch/dinner after the outing at the Club. Please contact Chris LaMazza at 201-214-4458 or at
clamazza823@gmail.com if you are going to participate. If you want to play and never played before,
don't be shy, play! I'm sure that a fellow Cosmos Brother has an extra set of clubs that you can borrow
for the day. It will be a great day to get out with your fellow brothers and knock the ball around for a
great cause. For the non-golfers, you are invited to attend the luncheon/dinner at the Club following the
golf outing for nominal fee of $20.00. Bring your friends and family.
Vinny Zafonte has been continuing to cook limited menu items on Friday nights thru the summer, so
come on down for some good food if you are around.

Congratulations to the 2016 Cosmos Club Scholarship Recipients:

As chairpersons of the Cosmos Club Scholarship Committee, we would like to recognize the following
children and grandchildren of Cosmos Club members who were awarded scholarships on Tuesday, June
28, 2016 at the Club; Nicolette Agresta, Kristen Albonico, Olivia Belfiore, Joseph Brancato, Karlie
Brogan, Olivia Carriero, Jaclyn Corbo, Julianna Graff, Kevin Luehs, Max Parisi, Ryan Scarry, Julia Sluyter,
and Pat Squillante. A short reception followed for the scholarship recipients and their families. John
Battista and Frank Marinelli, Chairpersons.

Friday night dinners are continuing through the Summer ! Please look for Vinnie's email for
this week's menu.
The Annual Golf Outing chaired by Chris LaMazza is being held on Wednesday, September
14th, flyer attached. If interested, please email Chris before August 25th. Also attached is
the tee box sign form. Please have the tee box sign in form back to Chris asap so we can
have the new signs printed.
Save the Date, October 15th Annual Columbus Day Dinner Dance/Installation Dinner, more
information to come in the next issue.
