51ST YEAR AT SAINT VINCENT

COLLEGE
The Steelers are celebrating their 51st Training Camp at
Saint Vincent College in Latrobe,
Pa., this summer.
Pittsburgh has called Saint Vincent College its summer home
since 1966.
Through their first three decades in the NFL, the Steelers
held their training camps at a
variety of locations, as far east as
New England and as far west as
Wisconsin. In 1966, for the third
straight summer, training camp for
the Steelers was at the University
of Rhode Island.
The team was there through the
first four weeks of a five-game preseason schedule. Then, after
a loss in Green Bay to Vince Lombardis Packers, Coach Bill
Austin wanted the team closer to Pittsburgh because the 1966
regular season was due to open with a home game against the
New York Giants on Sept. 11.
With no practice fields of their own at the time, the Steelers
turned to Saint Vincent College. The team arrived in Latrobe on
Aug. 29 and spent a couple of weeks on campus going through
final preparations for the 1966 regular season.
In 1967, the Steelers conducted their entire training camp at
Saint Vincent College.

CAMPING OUT
The Steelers are in their 51st consecutive year of preseason
training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa.
Pittsburghs 51-year tenure at the college is tied with the
Minnesota Vikings (Mankato, Minn.), for second in the NFL for
training camp longevity.
Only the Green Pay Packers, who have held their preseason
camp at St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisc., have maintained
a longer summer home for 59 years.

GREENE AND DUNGY TO THE

HALL OF FAME
Former Steelers linebacker Kevin Greene and safety and defensive coordinator Tony Dungy were elected to the Pro Football
Hall of Fame Class of 2016, and were enshrined on Saturday,
August 6, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Greene played in 228 games over the course of 15 seasons
for the Los Angeles Rams (1985-92), the Pittsburgh Steelers
(1993-95), the Carolina Panthers (1996, 1998-99) and the San
Francisco 49ers (1997). He was a three-time first-team All-Pro
(1989, 1994 and 1996) and a five-time Pro Bowler (1989, 199496 and 1998).
Greene ranks third all-time in NFL history with 160.0 sacks.
He recorded double-digit sacks in a single season 10 times, and
he led the NFL in sacks twice (1994 and 1996). He was named
to the NFLs All-Decade Team of the 1990s.
As a member of the Steelers, Greene recorded 35.5 sacks
in three seasons. His 35.5 sacks in a three-year span are the
second-most sacks in any three-year span in Steelers history.
Dungy played for the Steelers from 1977-78, and was a
member of the teams Super Bowl XXIII team. He returned to
Pittsburgh in 1981 as the teams defensive backs coach, before
being elevated to defensive coordinator in 1984. At the time, he
was the NFLs youngest defensive coordinator.

THE LAST TIME VS. DETROIT

Pittsburgh 37, Detroit 27
Nov. 17, 2013
Heinz Field (57,905)
PITTSBURGH - Trailing 27-20 at halftime, the Steelers
defense clamped down and shut out the Detroit offense in the
second half, and QB Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdowns
in the fourth quarter to help lead Pittsburgh to a 37-27 victory.
Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown connected on
touchdown passes of 34 and 47 yards in the first quarter to give the
Steelers an early 14-0 lead. K David Akers made a 35-yard field goal
early in the second quarter to cut the lead, 14-3. On the Lions next
possession, S Will Allen forced a fumble on RB Reggie Bush that was
recovered by LB Lawrence Timmons. On the ensuing drive, K Shaun
Suisham made a 25-yard field goal to give the Steelers a 17-3 lead.
Detroit responded as QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin
Johnson connected on a 79-yard touchdown to cut the lead 1710. Suisham made a 34-yard field goal to extend the lead, 20-10.
The Lions scored 17 unanswered points as Stafford
and Johnson connected on a 19-yard touchdown, RB Joique
Bell scored on a two-yard run and K David Akers made a
19-yard field goal to give Detroit a 27-20 lead at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Steelers. Suisham made a
21-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to cut the lead,
27-23. Early in the fourth quarter, the Lions faced a fourth-and-five
on the Steelers 10-yard line. But they faked the field goal attempt
and fumbled the football that was recovered by S Ryan Clark.
Roethlisberger then led Pittsburgh on a 16-play, 97-yard drive that
was capped off by his touchdown pass to FB Will Johnson. Clinging to
a 30-27 lead, the Steelers defense stepped up once again, as Allen
recorded an interception and returned it to the Detroit 34-yard line.
Roethlisberger hit WR Jerricho Cotchery running down the sideline
for a 20-yard touchdown pass, his fourth of the afternoon, to give Pittsburgh
the decisive 37-27 victory.
