LI-FI TECHNOLOGY

Introduction.
Li-Fi is a bidirectional, high speed, and fully networked
wireless communication technology similar to Wi-Fi.

How It Works?
1.It uses light from LEDs (Light emitting diodes) as a way
to deliver networked and high speed communication.
2.The ON state of LED is the logical 1 and the OFF state
of LED is the logical 0.
3. Hence we can vary LEDs flickering by using a
controller depending on the data we want to encode.
4. The data sent by LEDs is received by photoreceptors.

Advantages of Li-Fi
1. Wi-fi is great for general wireless coverage but Li-fi is
ideal for confined regions and high density coverage.
2. The technology can yield a speed more than 10
Gbps, allowing a HD film to download within 30
seconds.

3. Li-Fi uses light. Light is very fast - essentially zero

latency across very long distances.
4. Data can not be intercepted without a clear line of
sight.

Disadvantages of Li-Fi
1.Light can not pass through walls hence making Li-Fi
short ranged.
2.High installation cost.
3. Interferences from external light sources like sunlight,
opaque materials, normal bulbs etc.
4. A major challenge facing Li-Fi is how the receiver will
transmit back to transmitter.

Future of Li-Fi
1. Li-Fi can already send 10 to 50 times the amount of
data that Wi-Fi can in a single area.
2. The Li-Fi market is projected to have a annual growth
rate of 82% from 2013 to 2018 and to be worth
above $6 billion per year till 2018.
3. With scientists achieving speed of 224 gb per
second in the lab using Li-Fi , the potential for this
technology to change everything about the way we
use the Internet is huge.

4. The use of solar cells as both power source and

receiver could mean that Li-Fi is the key to
connecting huge areas of the world to the internet. It
could also provide a means to connect everything
from street lamps to white goods.
