We interacted with few farming families in the Talataand area.

On an
average, most of the families have very basic requirements, everyone
wants to marry of their kids, have a pucca house to themselves and live
their life peacefully. This is a very generic thought that every family has.
They rotate their work, they have the choice to work in their extra time
that they have but most families still are occupied with the age old
tradition/practice that most of the work is done by the ladies in the family
such as sowing, reaping in the field, household work etc.
The disputes that these families have in the community are very basic
such as dispute erupts when the cattle belonging to one family gets into
the field of some other family. Apart from this, there are no major disputes
that these families have whatsoever. They have an escalation hierarchy in
which they try to resolve any issue among themselves, if not then the
issue is taken up to the panchayat.
Another very interesting observation that we had was that although these
families belong to a different region/caste, altogether they were very
receptive of the new techniques and technologies/ideas that KGVK
introduced them to. They are even very much encouraging of the NGO in
terms of ideas that were shared, resources provided, guidance etc.
The only concern is that the children of these families do not have ample
opportunities to study after Std. 7/8. Most of the public schools do not
have enough resources to support/encourage these children. Children also
do not get much of the guidance from their parents and they end up
helping in their family occupation that is farming. Few of the children were
married off pretty early in their age (around 17/18 years).
