Mindasilang
Before the musical play started, I thought that throughout the play it will center on our
Muslim brothers and sisters and it ought us to realize that not all of them are terrorist. Perhaps, I
was able to think of this because just recently the world was broken in silence when a shooting
occurred in a concert in Paris that had killed a hundred of people. It was then later confirmed that
it was the work of a terrorist group ISIS who were believe to be a Muslim extremist. Just then,
Paris declared an all-out war to this terrorist by sending missiles to Syria where the base of the
terrorist was located. However, it also killed hundreds of innocent Muslims residing that
location.
Back to the musical play, when it started I noticed that the characters where centered to
three types of people. They were the Lumads, Christians and Muslims. From that moment, I
remembered and realized that it was related in fact to Mindanao Week of Peace. Those three
types were the majority of settlers here in Mindanao. Just by watching the play, I was able to
appreciate all their songs although to tell you honestly that I was not able to understand each
word they uttered. However, I was fully aware that the advocacy they are fighting for is what we
are all concerned of. Thus, it is somehow a failure in my part to tend to forget that the peace I
experience here in Davao is not the same as well in other parts of Mindanao such as Cotabato.
Also, I realized that when peace is not yet attained here in Mindanao it is the family that will
suffer whether you are a Lumad, Christian or Muslim. Thus, the struggle for others to fight for
peace here in Mindanao is something that we should not put into waste and the responsibilities
lie not only to those selected people but each one of us Mindanaons.
Aside from realizing those things from the musical play, Mindasilang, I was able to enjoy
the performance of the characters as well as the language they used a mixture of English,
Tagalog and Visayan which was entertaining. Also, there were music that is unfamiliar to me
however it is still attracting to my ears and the dances they had shown were all related in the
culture of Mindanao. In addition, what makes it easy to identify the Lumads, Christians and

Muslims was the clothing. It was an effective way of telling the story to us, audience, who knows
a little about it. Lastly, the title Mindasilang was a shortened phrase of Minadanao muling isilang
