Addiction manifests itself in our lives and the lives of those St George’s Crypt has been helping homeless people and those
with addiction issues for 80 years.

we love in many different and often surprising ways. From our base in central Leeds we work daily with those
experiencing addiction and associated problems.
Our work is centred around offering
No one is immune to the effects and consequences, long term and short term. people the help and support they
require on their journey.

This conference aims to shed light on some of the theological approaches to Our ethos is firmly Christian,

• What pointers does our faith provide in dealing with the ramifications of different forms of addiction?

Jocelyn Bryan
Jocelyn Bryan is a tutor at the Wesley Study Centre, Durham. She has a PhD in psychology and
her research interest is in the interface between psychology, theology and Christian Outline Programme
ministry.

Christopher Cook is a Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Theology and Religion
at Durham University. He has worked in the psychiatry of substance abuse for 22 years and is an 10.30 Welcome & Introduction
ordained Anglican priest.

Vice chairman of the Crypt Trustees with a special interest in addiction matters. Alan is a Reader

Chris Wilson
Chris Wilson is the Care Centre Manager at St George’s Crypt. Prior to this, he worked for many
years at Caring for Life, a Christian charity in Cookridge, Leeds. Chris has experience of working 13.00 Lunch
with many people with a background of addiction. He is focussed on the task of working in
partnership with service users at the Crypt to help them along the road of developing skills and 14.00 Workshops
confidence in moving towards successful resettlement.
