Social issue is a problem that affects most, if not all, individuals within a co

mmunity. A society having social problems is unavoidable. Every nation faces and
struggles with their own social issues. Overpopulation is one these problems.
Overpopulation, by definition, is an undesirable condition where the number of e
xisting human population exceeds the carrying capacity of a particular domain. A
t present, the population of the Philippines is estimated to be over 92 million
making it the world s twelfth most populous country. Fertile women in the Philippi
nes have, on average, 3.1 babies each. The total population in Philippines was e
stimated at 102.2 million people in 2015, according to the latest census figure.
Looking back, in the year of 1960, Philippines had a population of 26.3 million
people.
Overpopulation is caused by a number of factors. Such as reduced mortality rate
and increased fertility rate. It is when there are more births than there are de
aths, and is referred to as a natural increase. Other causes of rapid population
growth rate is improvement in public health and the elimination of many disease
s. Industrialization also plays a part in the rapid population growth in the cou
ntry. For industrialization, modernization and economic opportunity cause urbani
zation, or an increase in the number of people moving from rural to urban areas.
Rapid population growth is a complex issue that is linked to many problems
one o
f which is poverty. As well as, unemployment, economic insecurity, poor health c
are, infastructure, and resources.
