Write-Up: Robert Frost
Frost had spent the first 40 years of his life struggling to strive through the
challenges that he was met with before having to reach the peak of his career. His
passion for reading and writing poetry stemmed from his High School years in
Lawrence, Massachusetts, alongside his love interest for his valedictorian partner,
Elinor Miriam White. His first milestone was achieved during his time in Dartmouth
College, in which he had his first poem published in a famous weekly literary journal
based in New York City. With this success, he managed to propose Elinor for her
hand in marriage, but was turned down, as she wanted to finish her studies before
committing to the union. They married on December 19, 1895 after his second
proposal and had two children, Elliot and Lesley. He attended Harvard University, but
was subject to drop out as he was faced with health related issues. He was
experiencing the best that life could offer, before everything turned upside down.
In 1900, his family moved to a farm in New Hampshire and attempted to make
a life on it for the following 12 years. Though his time there had created a huge
impact on his work, it was one of the most difficult times in his life. Elliot died of
Cholera in 1900. After his death, Elinor gave birth to four more children: a son, Carol,
in 1902, who would commit suicide in 1940; a daughter, Irma, in 1903, who later
developed mental illness; another daughter, Marjorie, in 1905, who died in her late
20s after giving birth; and the last daughter named after her mother, Elinor, in 1907,
who died just weeks after she was born. Additionally, the Frosts attempt to farm
poultry in their already sorrowful house failed ultimately.
After having to experience all the obstacles and a constant prolonged grief, he
built a new perspective regarding life, which aided the success of his poems. Some
of his most famous poems were directed towards these depressing moments, which
have resulted him to acquire 40 honorary degrees and awarded the Pulitzer Prizes
for his book New Hampshire, Collected Poems, A Further Range, as well as A
Witness Tree. He was also proposed to create poem and recite it for president John
F. Kennedys inauguration. He was also proposed to create poem and recite it for
president John F. Kennedys inauguration. His life ended due to prostate failure.

One of his many poems that depicted Frosts rock bottom phase is
Acquainted with the Night. Every sentence included in this poem shares a glimpse
of what he has been through and what he had felt. I believe that being acquainted
with the night meant having experienced the sadness complimentary to all the tragic
blows in his life. The story of how he was there to experience the grief and sadness
lingers between each line of the poem. The way that I have interpreted the meaning
of the poem is that he has been met with one of the most depressing moments in his
life, as he have witnessed the moments pass by and struggle in attempt to accept
the will of a bigger power. This is true according to the line that says I have looked
down the saddest city lane; I have passed by the watchman on his beat; and
dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
Aside from the substance of the poem itself, there is a numerous amount of
poetic devices used to enhance the feel of the story. The poem itself is comprised of
four three-line stanzas. The first poetic device that is utilized in this poem is the
rhyming pattern from the end of each line. The pattern goes a-b-a-b-c-b-c-d-c-d-a-da-a. Another poetic device that is utilized alliteration in the line that goes I have
stood still and stopped the sound of feet, as many of the words included start with
the letter s. All the poetic devices included in this beautiful poem works incredibly
together to wrap up the essence that Frost brought creating this piece.
