    Definition of ship owner/ship operator:
    Ship operator: the person operating a ship/ the
    company is operating the ship.
    The various rights and obligation associated with
    operating the ship are addressed to the ships
    operator.
    Exception is liability for oil pollution.

    The shipowner: start up the operation,
    manage it and bears the economic risk. Taking
    care of the ships manning (hire a master and
    crew) and its supplies (stores, spare part, fuel
    etc)
    Majority cases:
    The function of the shipowner and ships operator
    are the same (but it is not always so)

    Bareboat charterer: responsible for manning,
    equipping the ship and operates on his own
    account.
    Bareboat charterer = taking over the function of
    ship owner

    carriage has been concluded with the carrier or a
    person by whom the cargo is actually delivered to
    the carrier in relation to the contract of carriage.
    Agent: a person who is the party to a specific
    agency contract
    Forwarding agent is any person who is employed
    by the shipper to enter into a contract of carriage
    with a carrier.
