James Madison

James Madison was born on March 16, 1751. He lived on his fathers tobacco
plantation called Montpelier. This was located in Orange Country, Virginia. James
fathers name was Colonel James Madison and his mothers name was Eleanor Rose.
James was the first of twelve children and five of them died at infancy. He grew up on
Montpelier and later went off to Princeton College. His first occupation was as a lawyer.
James was a great leader and had a large role in the government. He became very well
known and he later met Dolley. James liked her very much and married her in 1794. They
had no children except for James step son Payne. Payne caused a lot of trouble
financially. James ended up penniless due to Paynes gambling and spending. James
stayed as a government leader for years. In that time he became great friends with
Thomas Jefferson. James and Thomas were both great government leaders too. Thomas
Jefferson became the third president of the United States. James became the fourth
president of the United States. With them getting this position it showed their potential
and they helped the U.S establish control within the country. James is not really known
for his military experience which included the War of 1812-1814, but for his speeches.
This war was against the British. James pulled through and succeeded. His term as
president was from 1809-1817. After retiring James Monroe became the fifth president of
the United States. James died on June 28, 1836 in Montpelier, Virginia.
