Start-up Procedure After Yankee Grind

1. Apply oil to the dryer surface at a rate sufficient to cover the entire surface with the Yankee at 85C
approx. The Oil will dry to a dark great colour. Reapply 2 more times allowing it to dry between
applications.
2. Apply 5% MAP solution at a rate of 2-4 mg/m2 for at least 30 minutes while the yankee is turning and
continuing to heat, looking to see that a dark grey film, indicating reacted phosphate is established on the
surface. The film will turn light grey with unreacted dried phosphate when the reaction is complete.
3. Apply the normal coating chemical (or wet strength) only for 20 minutes, with a steel creping blade
loaded at reduced pressure ( 25% normal load) and the Pressure Roll unloaded. Do not apply Release yet.
4. Change the steel creping blade and continue to level the coating with another steel blade at 50% load.
The Release should be initiated and the Press Roll(s) can be loaded. Increase blade pressure to normal
once the release is running.
5. The dryer surface is ready.
