Quiz on Saturday at 10:00 pm. FYI.

Critique Paper is due next Saturday August 13, 2016 meeting and counted as your last quiz before the midterms. The
critique paper must be handwritten.
Format of the critique paper (Obergefell vs. Hodges, 135 S. Ct. 1039; 192 L. Ed. 2d 609, June 26, 2015)
I. Introduction. Begin your essay by describing the decision. Provide the main thesis of decision and why you think
they are relevant in the Philippines. (4-6 sentences)
II. Summary of the Decision. Provide a brief summary of the decision, underscoring only the main points. Be careful
not to get too bogged down by your summary. Do not feel obligated to summarize each little detail of the decision.
Focus instead on giving the reader (that's me) an overall idea of the content of the decision. (2 paragraphs of 5-7
sentences per paragraph)
III. Analysis or critique. Your critique must focus on the problems
you had with the ponente's premise, arguments, or conclusions.
Organize your paper carefully and be careful not to jump around from one argument to the next. Argue one point at a
time. Doing this will ensure that your paper flows well and is easy to read. (4 paragraphs of 5-7 sentences per
paragraph)
IV. Conclusion. Your critique paper should end with a recap of the
decision and your reactions. (4-6 sentences)
To be written at the bottom of the paper:
I certify that this assignment is my own work, except where indicated by proper citation and referencing, and that I
have not plagiarized the work of others.
Signature of student and the date.
