Kristin Plesch, a senior student at SUU brings Germany to Utah. Kristin, who is originally from Germany but has been studying at SUU for the last three years, created a project that shared German culture with interested students. Additionally, she worked as a guide for one of her American friends, who visited her in Germany in the summer of 2014. Kristin, who says about herself that she has learned a lot during her time in America wanted to give something back to all the people who have made her time at SUU unforgettable. In 2014 her friend Hailey had visited Kristin in Germany during summer break. For eight weeks the girls explored German culture together and visited various famous places in Germany, such as the Jewish Museum in Berlin, the German Bundestag, and Heidelberg castle. After returning to Utah many of Kristins and Haileys friends wanted to learn more about the experience they had made in Germany. Kristin decided to arrange some meetings with all the students who were interested in Germany. Four to five students participated in each of these meetings which were held during March and April 2016. The group talked about German and American culture and traditions, and the similarities and differences that can be found when living in those two countries. Many very interesting discussions arose and some of the American students actually learned some basic German expressions. This project was initiated by the Global Engagement Center and the EDGE program. This program encourages students to create their own project, in this case with a global background. The EDGE program is divided in three classes which each prepare and support the student in developing an individual project.
